Top Mathematical Physicist Nicolai Reshetikhin Joins Elite Chinese University

(Yicai Global) Nov. 19 -- Nicolai Reshetikhin, one of the world’s leading mathematical physicists, recently joined China’s elite Tsinghua University and started teaching courses in the fall semester, according to the university’s own news publication.

Reshetikhin accepted an invitation last winter from fellow mathematician Qiu Chengtong, director of the Yau Mathematical Sciences Center, to teach at Tsinghua University, the report said yesterday.

A professor at the University of California, Berkeley, Reshetikhin had been in the United States since 1989. He was born in Leningrad in the Soviet Union in 1958.

Reshetikhin is one of the founders of quantum group theory, one of the founders of RT invariants, and an important promoter of the quantum integrable system theory. He is also an important contributor to Poisson geometry and Symplectic geometry as well as Quantum Kac-Moody algebra, and is the founder of the quantum 6j-symbols related to quantum gravity.

Reshetikhin and Fields Medal winner Caucher Birkar, both world-class scholars, will nurture students at Tsinghua University’s Qiuzhen College, contributing to the development of the next generation of outstanding mathematicians, Qiu said.

Qiu is the dean of Qiuzhen College, which was founded in April as an experiment by Tsinghua University in innovative talent training and improving the quality of training.

While his Yang-Mills is extremely important and no one doing quantum can runaway from it, but unlike Maxwell and Dirac who developed a lot of the framework, the development of Yang-Mills is still ongoing and major of past contributors are

Weinberg, Abdus Salam, Glashow , Witten...etc

If Yang is a significant contributor of Strong, Weak force @ Yang-Mills, then he will rank on par with Dirac (within top 10).
