Top 10 Longest Metro Subway Systems in the World 2016

Yes these 27 cities are expanding their existing network:

These 12 cities will launch metro soon:

Other than the 39 mentioned above, I expect to see even more cities building metros. China is still in the process of urbanization, now constructing 18 Mega-Metropolis (超级城市群, see below), each comprises of several large metropolitan cities. Rail transports (metro, HSR, freight railway) are central to these plans.

Looking at this crazy list, manufacturing and selling TBM is a very profitable business.

IIRC, there are approx 700 TBM in service in China at any one time. Just mind boggling!

Subway or railway? If a whole part of your subway system operates above the ground, it would be much easier and cheaper to build, Most Chinese cities subway plans will be completed ahead of the schedule and Chinese subways are top notch in technology, subways are so different in different countries, some subways in some countries can not be called subways by Chinese standard.
In China, we mostly build subways with the majority sections underground.....
In my city, most sections are built underground, with very few elevated sections in the outer suburb.
Quite often, an entire line is built underground even in suburbs, it happens in many cities in China.
(No surprise, we even build high-speed railways underground)

We have 4 lines with 2 tunnels under Yangtze River, we will open Airport Subway late this month and Line6 in December. In 2017, 2-3 lines will open, including 2 Yangtze River tunnels.
Currently, 10 new lines of extensions are being built!

Yes, in every major mega-region, we need a 3D transport network.
1, Metro
2, Intercity High-speed Rails, linking satellite cities
3, Trunk HSRs, linking major cities
4, Airport, linked by metro and HSRs
5, Expressways, highways, elevated rapid roads
6, Bus, BRT, trams,
7, Public bike and bikeways, pedestrian lanes

Great progress....
But I have a question, why no safety doors in the second video?
Many pre-2000 old subways have no such faculties, but Delhi Metro is new.

The Delhi Metro has finally started installing platform screen doors at its stations on the Yellow Line (Huda City Centre-Samaypur Badli). Unlike those on the Airport Express Metro Line, which fully block access to the tracks from the platform, the new screen doors are half its size.

The first set of doors have been installed at platform no. 1 of the Chawri Bazar station. “The height of the screen doors for the Yellow Line will be 1.7 metre. The side of the screen doors facing the platform will have LCD display panels for advertisements,” said Anuj Dayal, Executive Director (Corporate Communication), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Each platform will have a set of 64 such display panels for advertisements.

The screen doors are being installed to “manage” swelling crowds at busy stations. Chawri Bazar is the first station to be fully ready with such gates. Next in line is the New Delhi station where drilling on the platforms has been completed. Other stations to get these gates include Rajiv Chowk, Chandni Chowk and Kashmere Gate.

These screen doors will also prevent mishaps and suicide attempts at metro stations.

The installation of doors was started after getting approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) in December last.

Under the upcoming Phase-III project, all stations on the Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar (Line 7) and the Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden (Line 8) corridors will have screen doors. “The height of screen doors on Pink and Magenta lines will be 1.5 metre instead of 1.7 metre on the Yellow line,” said a Delhi Metro official. The height of the screen door is decided according to the design approved by the CMRS.

The contract for the project has been awarded to a consortium of Korean and Indian firms, which is working with a technical team of the DMRC.

Good to know that.
New subways should always have safety doors!
