forum
[fawr-uh m, fohr-uh m] Spell Syllables
noun, plural forums, fora [fawr-uh, fohr-uh] (Show IPA)
1.
the marketplace or public square of an ancient Roman city, the centerof judicial and business affairs and a place of assembly for the people.
2.
a court or tribunal:
the forum of public opinion.
3.
an assembly, meeting place, television program, etc., for the discussion of questions of public interest.

4.
the Forum, the forum in the ancient city of Rome.

Meeting place- for the discussion of questions of public interest, is this question not of public interest? Surely, the public would have not commented on it but they did and so did you. A forum is always a place for civil discussion but there are others out there trying to limit out speech, let us be for we will let you be.

WOW, I didn't expect to get that many messages instantly, just wow and thank you. It's just on numerous other threads I read about how Dhakaites often hates sylhets and I'm sure that's not true, than it leads onto an argument of who's richer, a Sylheti or a Dhakaite.

I was also wondering why the government hasn't done anything for the city of Sylhet, with the right policies it could become a hotbed for investment and become one of the regions most wealthy and prosperous regions.

I also want to pose the question, who do you thinks richer, the average sylheti, or the average dhakaites, or are they fairly similar.
by gdp per capita, Dhaka may be ahead of any other division. by absolute GDP, Dhaka is way ahead. i think Sylhetis especially who did not live in BD much think of Dhaka as 'the other'. you should know that Dhaka is made up of people from across Bangladesh. and Sylheti people naturally have large contribution in Dhaka. what do Sylhetis think of Chatgaon division people?

Well I read in one article that In sylhet banks, about 4000 crore is sitting idly. So if that's true we need to start making sylhet invest!ent friendly so our own people will contribute to Bangladesh success.

Ahh ok , well about Dhaka, that's great. I'm not sure what sylhetis think because I've lived my whole life in the UK and never have stepped further than sunamgamj or sylhet, so I would habpve no idea. Sorry about that

.
Well non-syletis have a ignorant perception that syletis are ultra rich. I remember one of my uni professors saying that remove sylet from BD and per capita income of BD with be like poor african countries. :omghaha: And no people in BD don't look down on syletis.

But Syletis do refer non-syletis as bengali. I have seen this in my own family but i guess it happens at a sub-conscious level. There is not much regionalism in BD.

Yes I've heard a similar exact story froma few people to, remove sylhet and your country will be poor. Forever shaking my head.

I always refer to everyone of my families as bengalis and sylhetis, but its usually the latter. And (if in Bangladesh) likewise my relatives back there call me Londonis.

Weird how people call sylhet city the London of Bangladesh. :)

I guess the perception stems from the fact that most syleti families have a family in member settled in UK and they think that UK is still a cash cow for migrant workers. The extravagant buildings popped up by expatriate in sylet also adds to that perception.

Sylet city is also getting fucked up like chittagong and soon will become uninhabitable like Dhaka.

Ah yes, that must be way. But I think its partly true, the restaurant boom is helping sylhetis to build lavish things out here in sylhet yet its more commercial than industrial, financial or business oriented, like really commercial. Biggest problem of sylhet to much shopping malls not enough clients and not enough other things.

I also see it that way, they need to plan sylhet and turn it into a planned city, but we cant even do that in dhaka , so how are we going to do else where. (Purbachal and uttara are different case for that matter ;) )

.
All of Sylhat and Assam belongs to BANGLADESH
.
And yes we support you for any nasty Adventure :enjoy:
No no no no no, leave Assam alone and India as a whole. And please defer from talking about politics on this thread, thank you.
