'Time to take action': Govt to review counter-terrorism strategy after Sialkot lynching, says Mazari

People like us are few and far between brother. We lost Pakistan as soon as TTP started their campaign. This is a slow grind down to the depths of hell.

I am not so pessimistic about the reversal. Let's have some perspective. The TLP and their ideological cousins are essentially cowards and don't have the stomach the take on the might of the Pakistani state once a decision is made. Egypt had a more ideologically sound and determined religion based movement but that got sorted out.

But we need to look back at the role of the media and opportunist politicians who stabbed Musharraf in the back when he finally launched the Lal Masjid operation in 2007. We need to look at those opportunist politicians--including Imran Khan--who supported the I-know-all corrupt, meddling Chief Justice of Pakistan Ch. Iftikhar in 2007. Those two events played a huge rule in causing anarchy in Pakistan. There should never again be a repeat of such media and political class collusions in matters which are critical for Pakistan's progress.

Hang 30 to 50 ppl of that mob publicly and it wont happen again. Reward and punishment is the only way to control society.
Why you think the stupid drivers in Pakistan suddenly becomes good law abiding drivers in ME and west? Its because in those countries u get punished for breaking the laws and u cannot get away with it. While in Pakistan u can do anything on the road and nothing happens. This stupid govt have no writ and powerful are never punished. Funny how imran khan used to say same things but now he himself has become part of the same rotten system.
To be honest here , named a single ME country where its forces and law enforcement agencies intimate the govt to negotiate with the extremist and dont let the clash between military and civilians?? We are witnessed similar shit happened in karachi when MQM did the terrorist activities for years but now where are those so called MQM extremists ? Woh jub chahain gay TLP bhi khatam ho jay gi mary dost , samjhny waly samjh jaty hain

Nothing will happen unfortunately. If the government tries to clamp down on this mindset the opposition will suddenly become the defenders of Islam and win the next election by a wide margin. Our awam are extremely gullible and naive when religion is concerned. PTI used the same tactics when they were in opposition and they are paying for their populist policies of the past now. Much as I would like to sympathize with their predicament they were no better when it mattered most.

I remember as a young kid going to the mosque for hafiz, I witnessed children being slapped, pinched and verbally abused. I got told to take off my nike hat whilst he muttered some mumbo jumbo political opinion. This is in the UK. I was disgusted and never came back. Sometimes its not even the content, its the attitude towards it.

In the bible its same old stuff, patriarchy and threats bla bla but they way it is taught is with kindness, kids grow up to be fully functioning even if they do go to a catholic school.

Now imagine what happens in Pakistan especially in madrassahs. It doesn't even need a counter terrorism strategy, just fix the education system.

This was RS who was brave enough to finish MQM once for all otherwise MQM would still be alive today had Bajwa was here at that time.

It depends on who is sitting in COAS desk.

The problem is that the Government is being held hostage by the Military Generals. Do you think TLP can run around like monkeys without internal and external support???

Exactly that's why democracy in its current form does not and will not work in Pakistan.

1. Discard the outdated blasphemy law.
2. Hand out death penalties to people who use religion as a pretext to settle personal scores.

Unless the PTI government doesn't do this the problem will remain and rear its ugly head over and over again.

Considering “Justice” is in their name, it should have been one of the things at the core of the reforms they brought when they became the government in office.

Also, the energy of these misguided people needs to be redirected into a “Muslim work ethnic”, where work is a form of worship similar to the Protestant work ethic, as was developed at the end of the medieval wars of religion in Europe and into the Renaissance and industrial revolution.

Ataturk’s reforms should be studied but only that which is compatible with our culture should be implemented, to minimize the risk of a backlash.

Good point but the issue is not x y z government but the society.

Unfortunately pakistan has to learn to live with these zombie mullahs who are not just spreading their disease but also breeding in numbers like rats.
One good option is 5 years ruthless dictatorship even if few million jahil useless zombies lives are lost in the process. Replace all madrasas with forced labor/education camps where these jahils are taught to be civilized humans not barbarians holding islam hostage.

Going full North Korean on the people will just lead to a backlash. Who is going to fund the labor camps? You need a constructive ideology to motivate people and marginalize the fringe elements. A lot of people go in the direction the wind blows; so pull in the productive people by getting the economy going with a productive and sustainable ideology; build the from top down (judicial reforms, governance reforms, using technology to speed up government services and make them more transparent) as well as the bottom up (literacy, civics, public service organizations, etc.) , and you can squeeze out the stubborn middle without imprisoning large numbers of people, just expose their obstruction. But for this, the top of society will have to make economic sacrifices to jump start this economic reforms as happened under Ataturk.

We should be studying Ataturk, because we are in a state not very different then late era ottoman Turkey just before losing WW1.

Too much freedom is making Pakistanis go crazy. Everybody has stupid point of view of how country should be run. You have Mullah Zombies who want to turn this nation into chithole like Afganistan, liberals who want to implement western system not knowing the situation does not apply to Pakistani culture, and then those people who still think all is well in Pakistan bus democracy ko 10 saal or doo phir sab kuch theek ho jai ga.. thats all bs to me.
If you want to talk about Ataturk even though I dont agree with many of things he did but he did exactly opposite of what you mentioned on the top. Even though he did not kills much people but he forced everybody to get their act together and helped them get out of backward society.
If Pakistan in 1980s could fund 1000s of madrassas, Im pretty sure if the government had the will they could do something like this. It would be very beneficial in the long run. deradicalize the population by forcing them to attend few years in such camps.
