NEW DELHI, September 15: Tibetan and Indian members of Students for a Free Tibet-India today carried out a photo action this afternoon in front of the India Gate, displaying a banner reading ‘Tibet’s Independence, India’s Security’. The 7 activists also displayed the Indian tricolour and the Tibetan national flag during the action that they said was carried out in protest of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s maiden visit to India later this week.

SFT-India submitted a petition to Prime Minister office in South Block this morning. The petition was launched on Change.org and received over 4000 signatures urging PM Narendra Modi to talk about the crisis in Tibet with Xi Jinping, and simultaneously secure India’s interests by holding a strong ground in front of China.

“I firmly believe that the ultimate lasting solution to India’s national security lies only in protecting freedom in Tibet”, said Jyotsna George, Campaigns Director, Students for a Free Tibet-India. “I care deeply about the values on which our nation was created: freedom, democracy and justice, and I strongly urge PM Modi to take a concrete stand on Tibet when he meets Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday”, Jyotsna added.

“Since Xi Jinping came to power the situation inside Tibet has turned from bad to worse. Only last month Chinese military opened fire on innocent Tibetans in Dema, Eastern Tibet, killing 5 peaceful protesters, and injuring many”, said Dorjee Tseten, Asia Director, Students for a Free Tibet. “Tibet is under one of the most oppressive military occupations of our times. Through our protests we want to dismantle China’s lies and propaganda, and directly communicate with Xi Jinping that Tibet is his number one challenge. The sooner he ends the occupation of Tibet, the better it will be for the future of China.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to arrive in New Delhi on Wednesday, and will face serious protests from Tibet groups during his two-day state visit.

More than 130 Tibetans have set themselves on fire in protest of China’s oppressive rule in the last five years.

"Tibet's Independence, India's Security". That sums up pretty much what the whole "Free Tibet" movement is about.

As Scotland heads to the polls this week to vote on whether to become independent, one country with restive regions of its own is watching the debate unfold with nervousness and some mystification -China.

China has every reason to look askance at the idea of regions separating. It is facing persistent unrest in far-flung and resource-rich Tibet and Xinjiang, and also the matter of Taiwan, the self-ruled island China claims as its own.

In 2005, China enacted an “anti-secession law” that allows it to use force on Taiwan if deemed necessary. The law was seen as a warning to Taiwan’s then-president, Chen Shui-bian, who angered the mainland with his independence-leaning rhetoric.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said during a visit to London in June that he respected the wishes of the British people but he hoped that Britain would remain united.

A diplomat in Beijing said all a ‘yes’ vote for an independent Scotland would mean for China would be “another ambassador”. But China has in the past not been so tolerant of some independence movements around the world.

Wang Yiwei, director of the Centre for European Union Studies at Beijing’s elite Renmin University, said the Scotland case would be different, as independence would be the result of a referendum supported by the central government.

“If Scotland votes for independence and that’s accepted by Britain then China has no cause to oppose it,” Wang said.

As China would never agree to referendums in Tibet or Taiwan, it need not worry about anything similar, he said.

“The conditions simply don’t exist for this to happen in China,” Wang said.

Chinese state media, though, has engaged in a degree of hand-wringing about the Scottish debate.

On Monday, the Global Times, an influential tabloid published by the Communist Party’s official People’s Daily, expressed worry about the precedent an independent Scotland could set for other countries, though it did not name China.

“An incredibly large number of nations will suffer from secessional movements if other nations follow Scotland’s example,” it wrote in an editorial in its English-language edition.

But China would not go down that path, the paper wrote in an editorial last week.

“China, as a country with a complex history and numerous minorities, will certainly never play this game the British are playing,” it wrote.

Despite often bitter disputes in recent years between China and Britain over human rights and the future of the former British colony of Hong Kong, China values Britain as a strong supporter of free trade, diplomats say.

Chinese newspapers have given broad coverage to the huge economic and financial consequences of a Scottish independence vote, with some questioning why an apparently successful country would want to take such a risk.

The Beijing News wrote last week that if Scotland became independent then Britain would be reduced to the level of a “third-rate country”, especially if a couple of years down the line it left the European Union.

“It will simply slip into being a tourist hot spot and a museum, no longer a centre of global politics, finance and culture,” the newspaper wrote, in a commentary widely picked up on the websites of other Chinese newspapers.

India continues allowing its territories to be used by separatists forces that harms another honorable member of the United Nations.

Bear in mind, India is also a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

India should be reminded that the SCO is primarily centered on its member nations' Central Asian security-related concerns, often describing the main threats it confronts as being terrorism, separatism and extremism.

We hope India will reflect on this error and correct its behavior and joined with all honorable members of the SCO.

Across the spectrum of the Naxalite affected States, the weaponry traditionally used by the Maoists mainly consists of weapons either looted from the paramilitary forces and the police or manufactured locally. Looting of weapons from security forces and their installations has been the easiest recourse available for the CPI-Maoist to arm their cadres. In one of the major incidents of this nature, on February 6, 2004, according to police sources, the Maoists looted approximately 200 weapons from different police posts in raids of Koraput town. A PWG press release on this operation claimed, “weapons, ammunition, grenades valued at INR 500 million were seized by the Naxalites of the People’s War. Among them there were 500 sophisticated weapons of different types (.303, LMG, SLR, Mortars, Stens, Revolvers, Pistols), along with more than 30,000 rounds of ammunition, number of Mortar shells and Grenades.” Again, on February 9, 2005, the Maoists cadres attacked the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) store in the Hirauli area of Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh and looted 17 rifles and close to 50 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, an explosive used to detonate iron ore mines. On November 11, 2005, over a hundred Maoist cadres attacked a home guard training centre at Pachamba in the Giridih District of Jharkhand and looted 183 rifles, two pistols and 2500 cartridges. Most recently, on March 24, 2006, following an attack on the Ramagiri Udayagiri sub-jail and other Government establishments in Gajapati District of Orissa, the Maoists looted 25 self-loading rifles, a pistol, a light machinegun and an AK-47 rifle.

Maoists: Deadly Arsenal

No, they are participating in a Tibet independent political activity. Tibetans living in India can live in India but should not be allow any political activities harming another member of the United Nations. It is against the Bandung declaration which was agreed by India.

Very dishonorable for India.
