They've been betting on that, since India hosted the separatists in 1959.

All it got them, was two hostile nuclear neighbors, a lost war, and a Dalai Lama who doesn't even ask for independence.

India has probably the worse geopolitical record of the countries in the region. Watched the Tamil minority get crushed because of it's ineffective dithering, watched at the Pro-Indian Nepali royal family get booted, started a war that it could not possibly win against China, managed to lose influence in Afghanistan in the blink of an eye, manages to antagonize the population of every major country around it, I could go on.

Oh and could've ended the Kashmir issue in its favour years ago after the war and now stuck with a beehive of extremism.

But Japan and South Korea are forced to at least, in their mouths and with their wallets, cooperate with China as we are their biggest trade partners.
