Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Saturday terminated the contracts of 50 staffers, including three pilots, after they were found to be possessing fake degrees.

“We have begun probe into [the cases of] all staffers who were hired [while] holding sham degrees,” PIA spokesperson Mashood Tajwar told The Express Tribune.

Tajwar added that action will be taken against all employees found culpable.

Earlier, on December 21, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) revealed that more than 20 air hostesses and stewards at the national flag carrier held fake matriculation certificates.

The authority had sent the certificates to different educational boards of the country for verification. All the boards confirmed that more than 20 crew members possessed fake degrees.

The CAA then asked the PIA to immediately terminate the services of the said staff members. The national flag carrier has now taken action against the employees.

Earlier this month, PIA informed the Supreme Court that at least 12 pilots and 73 crew members held fake degrees.

. . . . .
Agreed, there should be a countywide purge of such filth.
Especially in PIA... it is the most over-crowded airline in the world .....and by large margin...so only 5-10 % of the current strength should be kept ...rest should be sacked and let go because those parasites are a burden and that's why PIA is more expensive despite being a nation airline and offering much less luxuries than the top of the line airlines. I believe PIA can be revived to its past glory and beyond if there is sincerity and dedication from the top.

. . .
I travelled for the first time to Pakistan in almost 20 years using PIA recently... and wow, such a filthy airline. The screens didn't work on the plane from London to Lahore, whereas on the way back the Aircon? was leaking water from above, and once again no entertainment. And now I find out that the pilots may not have been qualified, ridiculous!

Atleast a step in positive direction..
Pia is already extra plus overload.
If they loose the people off, that's is really Good.

The letter says ‘suspend the licenses of referred pilots...’ but there are no pilot names listed in the letter. Is there a place these pilot names can be found?

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Saturday terminated the services of three pilots and 50 cabin crew members for having fake degrees.

The employees had been dismissed on the instructions of the Supreme Court in a fake degrees case, a PIA spokesman said in a statement.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar (CJP) had taken notice of alleged appointment of pilots holding fake qualifications in January this year.

A two-member bench headed by the CJP on Tuesday directed the Civil Aviation Authority to complete the verification of the degrees of pilots by December 28.

Meanwhile, CAA Director General Hassan Baig also issued directives to suspend the licenses of fake-degree-holder pilots and cabin crews in light of the Supreme Court's direction.

He also directed to suspend the licenses of all those pilots and cabin crews who had not yet submitted their degrees and certificates for verification.

Their licenses would remain suspended till they submit their referred documents.

The CAA DG also ordered to extend the defect liability period of all the contractors of Islamabad International Airport for six months owing to their non-satisfactory performance.

Earlier, he had directed to extend the defect liability period of the contractor of boarding bridges of Islamabad Airport M/s Adelte for one year because of their disappointing performance.

Fake degree, good God these charlatans were flying planes with the lives of people in their hands! They should face years in jail as well. Sacking them is not good enough.
