Not standard protocol. I agree.
But if they were in Indian waters and were lost, it is possible a call may have been made to seek help (in addition to SOP) as a sailor on lifejacket can survive for many hours in warm waters.
In any case the news has been supressed by pakistani media. Which is disappointing.
There is definitely the possibility that a call was made between the DGs but whether it lead to the rescue or it was made in the aftermath of the rescue is where I am skeptical, I am more inclined to believe it was a courtesy call for thanking the Indian Coast Guard.
The news has been carried by two publications so far, I'm certain more will pick up on it soon enough. Reports from Indian sources suggest that the gesture is being reciprocated by the release of many Indian fisherman being held in Pakistani jails. I'm glad to know that the whole thing will be ending well for them.
