Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - Four of the 47 African and Middle Eastern asylum seekers claimed that they were tortured by the Australian Naval officers forcing them to turn back to the Indonesian waters.

On Wednesday, Mohamed Abdirashid, an 18-year-old Somalian refugee stated that his right hand was burned using a lighter. He showed his burn injury to the press in a hotel in Kupang.

Three other Somalian refugees were also meted cruel treatment by the Australian Naval officers. They were forced to put their hands on the hot boat engine.

"As a result, they suffered blisters on their hands. The inhumane treatment happened aboard one of the Australian warships," he claimed.

He recollected that on December 8, 2013, his boat carrying 47 refugees left Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi for Australia. Two days later, the boat reached the maritime border between Indonesia and Australia.

Suddenly, three Australian warships stopped the boat and surrounded it for three days.

"We did not receive any food or drink after being stopped and surrounded," he added.

After floating for three days, the boat was towed away by one of the Australian warships. The boat was finally stranded on Rote Island, East Nusa Tenggara, on December 19, 2013.

"We were able to eat only after the Indonesia police gave us some food," Abdirashid noted.

Another Somalian refugee, Marke Abdullah Ahmad, who has a blister on his hand, stated that the three Australian warships entered the Indonesian waters up to seven miles from the Rote Island while trying to drive the refugee boat away.

"We showed the GPS readings to the Australian officers to prove that they had entered far into the Indonesian waters, but they paid no heed to it," he emphasized.

On January 6, 2014, an Australian warship also reportedly violated and entered the Indonesian waters when it was driving away a motor boat carrying 45 Middle Eastern immigrants.(*)

Of course these bogus asylum seeker cheats will lie and claim they were tortured, they are angry that they won't be arriving in Australia so that they can take advantage of our welfare system.

The boats are going to be stopped. Indonesia should stop aiding illegal people smugglers.

Actually, there's plenty of evidence that shows Indonesian military, police and government officials are aiding people smugglers and their boats.

The Indonesian government has also made it clear with its comments that it doesn't care about people smugglers running their rackets with comments like "oh it's your problem"

The first thing these economic refugees must learn is to queue up like everyone else who wants to live in Australia by going through the proper process of applying for migrant visa. and NOT jump the queue by lying and forcing themselves on the host country.

Indonesia is a corrupt country and I am not surprise those people in charge took bribes and black money to send these poor souls to die in the high seas.

Shit man, first they try to come to Australia illegally and now they complain about mistreatment when they did not success lol

People smuggler need to realise, we already did them a favor not to shoot their boat down and let them stranded.

We should take a more aggressive stand, including forcefully deport those refugee back where they came

If you want an Australian Visa, do it like everyone else, that's wait in your country for one, our government need to send a message that boat people should stay where they belong, in their boat

it's really funny to see people actually do take side with the refugee.......

The family 2 blocks down living on the same street has came from Crotia when the serbia thing was as high as monkey. He waited in his home risking ethic cleasing to get the visa to Australia.

Even my mother wait under hardship in refugee camp in Hong Kong after Sino-Vietnam war for a visa to Australia.

What makes those people ahead when they just jump the queue and trying to get a visa that way??

Any link of actual evidence? Remember there's a huge difference between Indonesia government doesn't care with actually aiding (giving boat, fuel, etc).

As developing country, there's plenty of problems that the government need to tackle, poverty, flood, basic water/electricity access, education, health care, election, corruption, mount eruption, terrorism, etc. It's quite obvious that smugglers going to be on the bottom of the list. After all, which one more important, using their limited resources to caring about Indonesian peoples safety and health or some smuggler who just want to help some stranger to get out of Indonesia?

Imo it's Australia created problem anyway, your government can solve it by simply withdrawing from the UN refugee law. After that you can reject legally any refugee who wants to come, just like what the Singaporean does. Australia wants too look good by signing the law, at the same time they avoid the responsibility which come with the law and choose to blame Indonesia for what they done.
