The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested three suspects involved in a social media smear campaign against the Pakistan Army.

The arrests were made in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Haripur, Battagram, and Havelian cities.

The suspects had created social media profiles within the last months to use them against the state institution, the FIA said on Wednesday.


They posted derogatory remarks to social media, it said adding that the cyber crimes cell from Peshawar took action.

The men were identified as Naveed Shah, Waqas Khan, and M Nawaz. Their mugshots were released to reporters.

The FIA has so far detained at least 12 prime suspects involved in the smear campaign. It has also sought permission to arrest a retired major.

Sources say over 2,200 poeple were served notices over the issue and cases were registered against several of them.

Maybe in banana republics. In USA the military is under civilian control. They have strict laws on behavior of military personnel which are generally enforced.

This is my personal experience. I have lived in San Diego for a year near Miramar. I never felt threatened by naval aviators and marines. they seem to be exceptionally well behaved towards civilians

That is different story in regards to powers and authority figures but even with the civilian in powers, criticizing on armed forces is considered offence amount to treason.

Pakistan army is generally very lenient in amidst of endless hate smear campaigns.

There are people in the US that criticize the army public from top to bottom to individual solders. You don’t see them rounding people up like our army.

Like who? People criticize the government and the decision of the government as the armed forces are run by the civilian governments. Other than that, you cannot criticize armed forces in person. It is laws in place to prevent from demoralizing the moral support of armed forces regardless of whether it is political justifiable or not.

Let’s not compare Pakistan army to the others. Rest of the countries have armies that are loyal to their country. They don’t became part of an international intervention and allow corrupt politicians to ruin the country. Their generals live in their home country when they retire.

On a personal note,
Nawaz sharif going full samson option against the army determined who I voted for.
I didn't vote PTI, I voted for a PTI MPA and independent MNA, those who stood the most chance to defeat PML-N. Khan was not in my calculus at that time. He was just the military's candidate to me, at the time.
