You don’t understand.

For US to take the islands they first have to launch air strikes on the island to soften defenses for a landing.

Once one bomb drops, the entire gulf will ignite with anti ship and BMs.

If they send the troops without softening up the defenses they will be slaughtered.

I realise but MEUs are better suited for amphibious assaults than an airborne division.

These marines would be slaughtered like pigs. If the Americans were truly thinking about a major conflict with Iran, they would be moving assists away from Iran's access denial range and not in it. Then again, some of their neo cons probably don't mind the idea of 100's/1000's of their marines being slaughtered in order to fuel the war flames.
