This year's host city of BRICS Summit: Xiamen

Explore Xiamen: A fitting host city for the BRICS Summit

CGTN Published: 2017/9/3

Xiamen lies off the west coast of Taiwan island in southeast China. With an area of nearly 1,700 square kilometers, the coastal city is twice the size of New York City.

Its average temperature is a cool 21 degrees Celsius, making it quite a comfortable city to live in all year round.

Xiamen is also one of the cities with the best air quality in the country thanks to the trees that cover nearly half the city's area.

Xiamen isn't just all that. It's also known for its delicacies, architectures with exotic touch, Matsu worshiping, and Hokkien culture.

Gulangyu Island, the Longtou and the Zhongshan Roads are some of the must-see places, and it is there where you can find lip-smacking snacks like peanut soup, glutinous pudding, fried oysters and satay noodles.

As a strategic point on both the land and sea routes, Xiamen plays quite a unique role in the Belt and Road Initiative.

It has been a major post for tea exports since the 16th century and was an international trading port in the middle of the 19th century. Today, cargo unloaded at the port can be swiftly carried by train through the China-Europe railway, much of which built within Russia. The Xiamen port also keeps close contacts with three other ports from the BRICS member countries.

Xiamen is a city with much to offer, with its breathtaking scenery, unique culture and strategic economic plans - no doubt, a fitting host city for the BRICS Summit.

Wow, Xiamen indeed has made great strides over the past two-three decades. Just as the rest of the nation.

wow, Xiamen was really ugly in 1980s.
Maybe the only good thing about Xiamen in 1980s was her cleanness as she is today.

Just wait for 2020 then we will see who has nicer cities, China or India

Stupid comment.
Xiamen is a very typical Chinese city with prosperity and wealth.
Clean and tidy, a combination of high rises and traditional buildings like all Chinese cities.
unlike any of india's filthy ones where the most shining part is the British buildings.
You find chinese tourists taking photos of the chinese traditional gates in Shanghai.
Shanghai is a ode to mindless high rises and total destruction of anything chinese. Totally soulless.

Pakistan is already way ahead of you
Why is Pakistan not apart of BRICS ? If south Africa , than why not Pakistan ? Approx same GDP.

Of course u can't replace Brazil , than BRICS will become Prics.

Another stupid comment.
Chinese tourists go to the Bund to take photos of Pudong, so do indians from slums.
I guess entire india is soulless where british buildings and Muslim-built grand monuments are the only shining parts.
The traditional indian parts are those slums.

Pakistan is already way ahead of you
Of course Pakistan is ahead of india.
Nobody wants to go to cities where cow shits and human shits are everywhere.
India is poorer than Sub-Sahara Africa.

Xiamen in 1980s might be poor, so were other Chinese cities, but at least no cow/human shit on the street.
It is always safe to walk at night.

I kind of agree. Shanghai is a city of barely 100 years old and Shenzhen barely 40, I prefer cities which have rich culture and history, like my city, Beijing.

Lenovo is seeing impressive growth in BRICS nations, as the Chinese tech giant steps up efforts to tap into the smartphone and personal computer market.

Lenovo Chairman Yang Yuanqing said revenue generated from BRICS nations accounts for 45 percent of the company's total revenue.

"In the past fiscal year, we recorded $6 billion in combined revenue from Brazil, Russia, India, and South Africa, marking a 10-fold jump from the number 10 years ago," Yang said.

In addition to occupying the top spot in Russia's personal computer market, Lenovo is also the second largest smartphone vendor there, with a market share of 9 percent.

In India, a Lenovo smartphone is sold every three seconds. According to the Beijing-based company, it will ramp up resources to tap into local consumers' growing demand for quality consumer electronics.

Has any study been done on what concrete gain India has had as a member of BRICS ?
Has it helped our trade or helped our domestic production ?
