Look at the stark differences in these pictures:
1994 & 2010.
The first has gunmen strolling down the street in 1994 and the second one has a man carrying a sleeping toddler near the same spot in 2010.
That is indeed quite a difference. Hope that we get to see many more such nice pictures from Afghanistan.

Many of the newer pictures of Afghanistan have kids playing around unlike those of the 90's, and that is always a nice sign.

These pictures are somewhat misleading as other members have pointed out. These pictures only show Kabul, the rest of afghanistan was pretty backward and extremely tribal.

Too bad Afghans lacked common-sense, and could not think or act for themselves.

Not only change the history but it bring back the history... Medieval period was revealed .. Afghanistan was blooming under shah , The influence of Russia was on Afghan society. Russia was co-oprating with Afghans by helping them in making dams,industries,hospital (As they helped India after 1947).

America saw is as an attempt of communism (russian) invasion in middle east. Look what they did with Afghanistan..

charlie wilson, jimmy carter and KSA pumped 30-40 Billion USD (today it will be more than 200 Billion USD) to .. If they would have spent this money for development for , the scenario would have been different,...

actually it was Charlie Wilson who pushed for a lot more funding to go into the country post withdrawal but his government paid little to no heed, since their job had already been done

The initial 50s-60s era pictures are turning into current war time pictures, wouldn't it be good if we just post the old pics because the new pics have been seen many times but the old ones are whcih many people have not seen?

Had Pakistan not interfered in Afghanistan supporting the Mujaheedin against the "Godless Commies", Soviet Union would never have entered the country in support of the then government. And neither would have US jumped into the conflict by pumping money through ISI.

Afghanistan would have progressed, but for Pakistan's short sighted, misguided, blunder of a "strategic depth" policy.
