Initial variants had jet engines taken out of cruise missiles. Only later variants had upgraded engines with up to 1000 hours of flight. Which is still very low in western standard.

And that doesn't mean the plane stops existing, the engine needs to be replaced, this is very costly and maintenance heavy.

If the engine is dirt cheap , how can it be heavy maintenance? Western jet engine has long hours of working life but if it cost 10 times the cost of a short life Russian engine. I do not see any benefit of it.
