This is Asian countries ally/threat

Vietnamese killed over 50,000 American boys. Americans hate Vietnam.
There are 1.8 million Vietnamese in the US, more than any other country in the world except Vietnam. Vietnamese-Americans have higher average incomes than the rest of the US (Asian-Americans Lead All Others in Household Income | Pew Research Center) So, I don't think that there is any evidence that Americans hate Vietnam, or Vietnamese.

I think the worst you could say is that Vietnamese-American are very much against the current Viet regime. Vietnam is a little nervous about them (there are a lot of them, and they are pretty angry still from the civil war), so you're going to see a cautious approach. But the follow-on generations that did not grow up with the war are going to get along better. Vietnam liberalizing its economy will help. And Vietnam being pushed away by China (as evidenced by the conversations in this forum) will help improve relations as well.

You can't insult them continuously, call them monkeys, put up oil rigs off their coast, and claim their EEZ, and expect them to stay friendly.

Entertainingly, it is similar behavior to Japan in WWII. Many people in Asia welcomed the Greater Co-prosperity Sphere at first, thinking it would be better to have asians (Japanese) in charge than white people, but Japan's poor treatment of them soon had them cheering the Allies. Ultimately, they got independance out of it.

I like their PHO noodles very much....

BTW, though the U.S. improves the relation with Vietnam, they will never become allies.

Staying to close to the U.S., they lose the Party. It's awkward that Vietnam is a communist country.

In BD, those that see india as friends mainly are:

1. Those that are in their 60+ (a declining group through old age), they have memories of the civil war or lost relatives to the Pak army..etc.
2. Die hard Awami League supporters.
3. Business people who make money trading with india (there is a large overlap with those in group 2).
4. These people mostly live in Dhaka.

Those who see india as a threat mainly are:

1. Mainly aged 45- (growing group) don't have any memories of the 70s.
2. Anyone that does not support the Awami League..ie most other party supporters.
3. Those people who's main trade is with China.
4. Those that live around the border regions.

The majority of the people couldn't care less about india (indifferent, dont trust etc but don't hate) and just want to improve their live.
