What's new

This image of doctor in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital Karachi almost made me cry.

It's dangerous for staff and patients alike. Imagine the quality of decision making after 24 hours awake. I did that once in my life and struggled to choose what I wanted for breakfast lol

Many times we would start our emergency theatre at 3pm in the afternoon and would work till 7 in the morning and then start our elective theatre at 8 in the morning and go till 2 or 3pm. That's how the life of a surgeon is like initially.

Believe it or not, you actually get used to working long hours to where it becomes normal.

Initially, its difficult but you would be amazed at how adaptable humans are.

And curiously you get a second wind of clarity as the shift goes on so judgement isn't so much an issue.

Working hard is fine.

But working while putting oneself at undue risk is not.

Welcome to a brand new Shimmering Neya Pakistan, Riasat-e-Madina where all none-PTI supporters have been condemned as vermin.

Funny how 20 years of PML/PPP illicit relation over government control failed to uplift hospitals and and in 12 months the issue is PTI problem

Alot of people in love with Nawaz Sharif's fitna and Zardari clan can't digest reality

When PTI and Imran Khan come to power

> PTI must fix Economy (-10 Billion Dollar Down the hole in 15 days)
> PTI must fix Water Dam issues (No major Dam Projects launched , donation is bad for it)
> PTI must fix Provinces while Provincial governments in Sindh are out of control
> 1980-2018 , Currency drops , all is well but 3 month into PTI government it is all their fault

But it is a great injustice to demand questions from PPP and PML's 20 year term

If people care so much about Private Protective gear for Doctors , why not donate for government Covid Relief Fund ? Put the hand in pocket and donate few lakh rupee or dollar

Sell Nawaz Sharif's cousin's 10 cows and get a box full of Covid-19 masks and face shields
Zardari owns 10,000 acres him and his family collect tax on it and buy Covid-19 masks

Residents and internees are still training. Medical or pharmaceutical setting, not all of them are get paid. For medical doctors long and tiring hours are part of training, that’s how it supposed to be.
Many of my family member those completed their residence in US, stated the same story.

Myself worked 120hrs per weeks, 6 months unpaid thereafter had meagre pay. Left for middle East, Alhamdullilah
It's normal routine there

It's not humanly possible to concentrate on your job while working a 36 hour shift.
Their bosses are putting patients lives in danger .
I have worked such long continuous shifts without sleep , but that was in very dangerous situations and very rarely. That's why I know that even if you appear awake, parts of your brain will go to sleep after keeping awake anywhere above 24 Hours, and you will inadvertently make mistakes, sometimes with dire consequences,
Making these doctors work 36 hour shifts on regular basis is more dangerous than helpful.

Isn't it a normal practice for all doctors including in Europa and Americas to work 30 hour shifts during their residency?

You make six figs more for specialists what more you need?
No ones cares about hours worked.

In private practice in the US, I have put in 80+ in a week regualrly.

During residency, hours have only been limited since 2003, but before that residents would put in 36 hours regularly.

I myself have been on for 40 hours straight once as a medical student.

Doctors are underpaid yes.

But asking them to work without proper protection is criminal.

May Allah bless and keep you safe sis and all nurses, doctors and other paramedic staff..

We'll ride this out, insha Allah.

Someone from government, if here, needs to bring this matter to damn authorities...

Pay the doctor their dues, dammit

They are heroes who are doing the impossible. Whole society needs to come to support them. If they don't have PPE, then we need to provide it as a society.

Alhamdulilah, I have not run into such problems in my part of the US, but then again I am not in the Northeast of the US. I hear it is insane there.

It is part of residency to work such long hours and it makes or breaks people. A physician needs to be on his A game no matter what is happening around him. We are trained for such scenarios.
