Theresa May to make statement outside Number 10 TONIGHT

20 March 2019 | https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/766742/theresa-may-statement-general-election-number-10

THERESA May is making a statement to the British public outside Number 10 tonight, according to the Irish Prime Minister.

Leo Varadkar said he expects Theresa May to address the British Public at 8pm tonight, Sky News reports.

This comes after France, Spain, Belgium and potentially Italy have warned they could veto a delay to Brexit.

And bookmakers Paddy Power said it could no longer accept new bets on a General Election being called after a “rush” this afternoon.

If an election is called, Jeremy Corbyn is favourite to be next Prime Minister (4/1) followed by Michael Gove, Boris Johnson (both 5/1), Sajid Javid (6/1) and David Lidington (15/2).

A spokesman for Paddy Power said: “We’ve seen a rush of hefty bets on a General Election to take place within the last hour or so, and as a result, we are refusing to take any further bets on the market.

“It seems there ‘May’ be trouble ahead.”

Theresa May is fighting for her political life after losing key votes to get her Brexit deal through Commons.

Today Mrs May faced shouts of "resign" from opposition MPs as she told the Commons: "(Mr Corbyn) asks about a long extension - I'm opposed to a long extension.

"I don't want a long extension.

“Setting aside the issue that a long extension would mean we would have to hold the European Parliament elections – which I don't think is in anybody's interests – the outcome of a long extension would be endless hours and days of this House carrying on contemplating its navel on Europe and failing to address the issues that matter to our constituents."

Stuck in colonial the past. The UK had the best of both worlds when it was part of EU. The Brits just can’t let go of their arrogance.

It is over and out. The UK cannot easily walk back now. It will be a massive defeat and humiliation if Brexit were not to go ahead. A lot of damage to the credibility of Britain. If Brexit goes ahead, a deal is impossible without incredible compromise.

It is a lose lose. Brexit has been a classic case of shooting yourself in the foot.

Everyone said that Brexit would happen on 29/03/2019

Earlier today Theresa May made a request in a letter to European Council president Donald Tusk exactly 1,000 days after the 2016 Brexit referendum asking for an extension for the Article 50 withdrawal process. Now May has gone on TV to say that Brexit will be moved to 30 June 2019 and she seemed quite arrogant about it.

It seems her personal interests are first, and everyone else second. This line of thinking would only lead to her own defeat, especially since she has insulted the MP's by blaming them for the delay in this speech. I don't know why she thinks she is the 'Daddy'

Donald Tusk has replied saying:

So she needs a positive vote in the Commons to get the deal. And if she doesn't, then what? Not many MP's like her attitude. Has she put the UK at risk by taking Britain down this road? I think so.

Tusk said, if the vote is won next week, then the approval for the extension will be given. If not then it will not be given. This means if May loses vote, there will only be 72 hours left to leave the EU from that point.

EU has really strict CO2 laws. Britain is better off leaving EU. But then again, once EU, always EU, no one leaves the Borg.

Bloke 'goes mad' with £660 Tesco Brexit panic buy – and wife can't believe it

20 March 2019 | https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/we...co-stockpile-Bloke-goes-on-660-shopping-spree

No-one knows for certain what will happen after March 29. But Tony Smollett is taking no chances.

The 58-year-old IT director went on a Brexit panic-buying shopping spree and ordered nearly £660 worth of essentials – including 144 rolls of toilet paper and more than 50 tins of food.

His wife, Juliet East, shared a photo of the gigantic No Deal stockpile online, and social media went nuts. Her pics of Tony’s panic buy have attracted hundreds of comments and likes.

Ms East, who works in the hospitality industry, said she did not tell him how much to buy for the family of five and "couldn't believe" the amount he ordered.

"I didn't think he was going to buy so much," she said.

"He just went mad and bought lots of everything. He was laughing at the situation and said he doesn't want anyone online to think he's mad."

Ms East, from Worcestershire, said she decided to stockpile certain items when they began planning for a no-deal scenario at her work.

She said: "It's becoming increasingly apparent that no-one knows what is going on.

"Many of our favourite foods come in from overseas and we don't want to run out of things if there's a shortage of certain items.

"It's the same way people fill their cars with petrol when there's a shortage."

The tweet, in which Ms East said she was "gently mocking" her 58-year-old husband, an IT director, attracted hundreds of comments and likes online.

She added the reaction on Twitter was not always positive, with other users giving her a "hard time" about the cost of the food and suggesting she was causing a sense of panic.

"We're a family of five, we have big shopping lists," she said.

"I'm the last person to try to create a panic. We're just keeping all of the bases covered."
