What's new

The Worst day in Human History.

you cannot justify atombic bomb blasts on cities, its shameful.

Japan was in no mood to surrender despite knowing they had no chance of winning the war it wanted to continue fighting l alone against multiple enemies so apart from using Nukes US had only one choice to end the war that was a massive full scale allies invasion of Japan from all sides which would have taken much longer time to end the war not to mention would have also caused more death and destruction than what atomic bombing did

.
I have no doubt that the invasion of Japan would have cost far more lives.
Overkill? I think not. The deaths of people are still the same regardless of whether they came at the hands of big bombs or small bombs.
The atom bomb had to demonstrate to the world what it could do, just once was enough.

Military lives, not civilians.

Whatever you guyz say Americans will remain terrorist and they are still killing lots of innocent people
Raising the issue of Malala while hundreds of malala going to school are killed by drone strikes everyday

Hundreds of schoolgirls being killed every day by drones? Please post a source for that claim or withdraw it.

Big chip on your shoulder...newsflash, people die in war.
The Japanese were no angels.

Not always, it's US which likes to use the strategy of fear and intimidation by killing civilians in particular to win a war, and then claims to be the champion of human rights.
I'm not denying what you say, but my problem is with US's holier than thou perception of itself, and the way it's "allies" are fed that false belief, so the truth is US is no different than any of the 'savages' they claim to fight.

Opinion changes... In 1940s Japanese were considering world best and they were planning to enslave all..
Its 2013, ppl changed, priority changed...

No doubt what everyone is "discussing" here will also sound terribly retro and politically incorrect in the coming years :)

people seem to forget that Germany, and Japan both were seeking the "ultimate weapons" which would change the tide of the war - the Germans had the V2 rocket which they launched at civilians in addition to the V1. They were working on the bomb as well - but foolishly got rid of all the Jewish scientists.

Either way both sides were firebombing the #hit out of each other in repeated campaigns - which in my opinion took a worse toll than 2 primitive nukes.

That is wrong. Hitler never wanted a Nuke. He was against it. There is plenty of evidence for that. Even in the later stages of the war Hitler did not allow such a program.

The V1 and V2 did however exist.

The lesser of 2 evils as harsh as it sounds.
Quite sure there have been many worse days.
Indeed the bomb effectively ended the worst war ever, against a very cruel nation. I am quite sure many people celebrated.

So here you are justifying nukes dropped on two civilian population centers. I'm sure if you had kids mutated and people suffering from cancer, perhaps you might have thought twice before making such a ridiculous statement.

Actually, always think twice before attacking a bigger enemy who has more firepower. That is the lesson that we should derive from this.

In what way is it ridiculous?
Hundreds of thousands if not millions would have died in an invasion of Japan. The atom bomb killed less people.
The parents of American men who would have died in the invasion would no doubt ask 'why didn't they use the bomb and end the war?'
Obviously both options are terrible, hence why I said the lesser of two evils.
Civilians died yes...is the life of a civilian worth more than a soldiers? You enter a very murky world there.

1st, lets get a few historical facts into perspective:

Japan was in the process of capitulating. The US gov.t wanted to use the nukes as a show of force to intimidate Stalin, and NOT to save American or Japanese lives.

As if Americans were saving civilian lives when they were terror bombing Japanese civilian populated cities. Terror bombing of population centers, the brainchild of your very own "Bomber" Harris.

Also, do tell me, was the Bengal Famine which resulted in the deaths of 4 million indians also a necessary evil???
