No, that's a flawed definition. Or at least it's not compatible with what statista shows.
Americans in average read books for less than 10 minutes per day. There's no way that your definition would sum to over 5 hours per week. Impossible.

flawed or not thats the definition , you read a romance it would be added to your book reading time , you read 20 newspaper , you add zero minute to your reading time

No, it's not. It's clearly not the same definition that statista uses. So, apples and oranges.

And the prize for negativity goes again to Hack Hook..... congrats..

By the way 65% of Indians are illitrate..... have this in mind next time you want to pretend Indians are bookworms.

Also the notion that Americans on average read 5 hours of books per week apart from educational and scientific works, newspapers and internet content can only seem realistic to those who either idealize the USA or like to keep their eyes shut as to the reality of western and especially American society, or are simply not familiar enough with the latter.

ok we can hid our head under the snow
nobody in the world read as much book as us
Hello, my dear "But Muh-!" friend @Hack-Hook!

Let me clear up something for you - india has 1.3 billion population and a good number of readers are students (mostly absorbed in their course material, not intellectual reading).

Based on those numbers alone, these statistics are possible.

I keenly await your next "But Muh-!" to this.

Yours Sincerely,
@BlessedKingOfLonging

My dear "But Muh-!"

The definition per person is an average taken over the entire sample size (in this case, the country's population). A significant contribution for india comes from students because reading course material counts as reading time...and that alone is so much it propels india upwards.

I hope I don't have to teach you simple mathematics now, do I?

dear don't understand the definition friend how i explain to you that they don't add studying your school material , or studying in your job field to that .

and dear don't knew the fact , Iran with a Student to work force ratio of 10.2% have one of the highest ration in the world. so by your logic Iranian must read a lot more.
by the way instead of insulting learn to look at the facts . do you want me to tell you how is the situation of education in India?
Despite the high overall enrolment rate for primary education among rural children of age 10, half could not read at a basic level, over 60% were unable to do division, and half dropped out by the age of 14.
In 2009, two states in India, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh, participated in the international PISA exams which is administered once every three years to 15-year-old's. Both states ranked at the bottom of the table, beating out only Kyrgyzstan in score, and falling 200 points (two standard deviations) below the average for OECD countries.[157] While in the immediate aftermath there was a short-lived controversy over the quality of primary education in India, ultimately India decided to not participate in PISA for 2012,[158] and again not to for 2015.[159]

Dear "But Muh-!"

Nowhere in the article does it mention that they discount compulsory educational and professional material to calculate average reading time. Overt gharbzadehgi has rendered your mental capabilities quite hamstrung, I'm afraid - perhaps grabbing an electric eel might help snap you out of it?

And yes, I never denied india's educational state is abysmal. I LIVE here - I know all about it. Nevertheless, they do spend as much time reading for their exams or in the pursuit of their degrees, hence they stack up reading time.

Is any more clarification needed? Did my signal get through?

why you don't under stand if you calculate reading time per day by definition you don't add those times , how hard it is to consider that. you don't live inside Iran and you don't accept Iran statistic center announcement . wonder why you insist on such nonsense

and again:hitwall::hitwall::hitwall::hitwall:
why you can't get it how many student they have don't make dent in statistic even if we calculate studying , its the percentage of students thats important and in that regard we are ahead of them . unless you claim their student study and ours don't do that.

Oh, so you invented a personal criteria now? Whose authority did you invoke to insert this condition, may I ask?

Even there, india's student population % is over 27% (of a population of 1.3 billion). That beats the 10% of 80 million Iran has.

Bring out the calculator, punch in the numbers. The proof is in the figures.
