Chinese leaders (like any leader) care about being in power. free or unregulated media does not server that purpose

China still sucks at soft power and media power. A lot of it has to do with over regulation from the government. It needs to take some cues from South Korea on how to build its media and improve its branding.

Semiconductor chips are the technological foundation of soft power. You need an independent semiconductor industry to build an independent Internet ecosystem.
