Instead of feeling ashamed and doing nothing, you should strive for change and join the anti status quo forces. The silent majority hurts more if it does not act than the minority that sides with wrong people and the former than suffers...that's what Pakistanis are going through and paying due to their wrong choice in 2013 elections. Had they come out heavily in the favour of change in large numbers, the course history would have been drastically different today.
