The US Is Leaving UNESCO

US left UNESCO in ‘84 then rejoined again during Bush’s presidency.

Why people in this thread are flipping out over this is weird to me. It is a dumb decision but it is not a very consequential one and will probably be reversed after Trump leaves.

Much to the dispointment of the people on this forum, the US is still here and will continue to chug along despite what Trump does.

Agree. The US is more capable than the foolishness of its politicians. It's a self running engine that is only slow down by government interference.

Why you think people wish the US ill beats me. Only Trump is a barrier; as long as you have him around, don't expect anything but looks of pity and commiseration. As far as the rest is concerned, we would just like you to keep your bombs and aircraft in US airspace all the time, and keep your carriers within your 12 miles from the coast limit. The rest is fine.

A dumb move in my opinion. UNESCO is democratic, so lol USA doesn't like it.

Israel and $ are the reasons
Is india following suit? It's the best opportunity to show your allegiance!?

People should be happy US is leaving UNESCO and other UN organizations, considering how much people complain US controls the UN. I also laugh when some call the UN a democratic organization, which it's clearly not. The General Assembly is nothing more than a debating society with very little power. Whatever power there is, rests in the hands of the UNSC, specifically its five permanent members and their overriding veto power.

Then there's the issue of funding. The US provides the bulk of the funding for UN operations. In fact, the majority of of UN funds come from a handful of countries. If you want UN to be more democratic, pay your fair share of dues.

The lapdog is leaving because its master is not happy about Palestine being admitted into the organisation. LOL
