They endured it because of a repressive regime that makes its citizens put on ridiculous dog and pony shows for one man's pleasure many times every year. If all that money was spent on its people.. they might not be off that bad.
Many other millions were lost on the South Korean side.. many hundreds of thousands were lost by poland due to Germany...

You do realize the nation is surviving because of US aid. US gives them a lot of aid since they can't produce their own crops the NK government even goes to the measure of repackaging the food that US sends them just to hold face with the public.

and how do you know "the regime" is repressive?? just because bbc and "human rights watch" say so?? is it not true that india and pakistan are really the most oppressive societies anywhere??

the parades are a part of the unique culture there... there are equivalents in usa, russia, china and south asia in varying degrees.
