The speed of light in the sacred hindu texts....

I mis-phrased...but you are arguing semantics and avoiding the issue. If the ORAL TRADITION was developed by the IVC, then it likely took place mostly within modern day Pakistan.

And secondly, the IVC did have text, we just have not been able to decipher it yet...and all you really had to do is take 1 second to type it into Google to reconfirm.

Ancient Scripts: Indus Script

Writing

Which Oral tradition? I didn't know the IVC had an oral tradition (they probably did, but we can't jolly well ask one of them to recite his poem now can we?)

What I don't get is that if these guys were so brilliant, why didn't they just write these stuff down instead of having to develop a whole oppressive social structure in which you have Brahmins (who passed this stuff down from father to son) and Untouchables. You people only recently decided to outlaw this practice.

Prejudice?

The caste system came in much later into contemporary Indian society.

Initially it wasn't hereditary; it became one later on.

Zyxius....If only we had someone as smart as you back then....ah the paradise India could have been.

P.S. Maybe they were so brilliant that they found it easier to memorize than write? (That IS probably the case you know)

Westerners ignorance.

They mistook West Indies as India as well.

Westerners even call all subcontinent food as Indian food. I would give you idly, vada pav, masala dose, sambarr, but Biryani, Nihari, Haleem is ours.

:p:lol::agree::tup:

Kite flying is virtually non-existant in India, yet its called Indian. It doesn't matter that come basant season, millions of kites take it to the skies of Lahore.

Kite flying is in Pakistan and Afghanistan definitely not India.

Is kite flying some kind of exclusive activity reserved for the muslims of the world?

What's up with all these random claims on something as universal as kite-flying?

I mean I feel rather dumb doing this, but here are pictures of kits being flown in India. Yeah kite flying is a big thing in India as well.

Hell I've cut down a couple of kites myself (with help from my big bro of course)

Haven't some of the inveterate Indian-bad-news hunters glanced upon headlines saying how some guy got decapitated by the glass-coated kitestring?

So you are saying they were so brilliant that they felt that it was wiser to create a rigid and discriminatory social structure in which all people were not equal, rather than to just write it down. That's genius!! Just out of curiosity.....which class do you belong to?

You're seriously asking this? I thought we were joking.

Dude read some books. You'll understand better why societies evolve the way they do.

Infact I had opened a thread on caste system...but nobody seemed too interested in analysing the issue from a historical standpoint.....it might be around somewhere...do a search.

.
I started a thread on this subject too....its called 'the miserable life of a lower caste Hindu' . Please feel free to post there and exchange your views....I am interested to know more about the caste system

I have no interest in such a thread. Its similar to opening a thread on "Miserable life of homosexuals in Saudi Arabia". It serves no purpose and tells us what we already know.

If you are interested in the history of the caste system - how it began, how it evolved and changed, why did it become such an integral part of Indian society, and most importantly, What is it exactly?
Then please go ahead and post something interesting.

Where did I say ALL?

There are many westerners running Afghani and Pakistani restaurants all over America, UK that I've seen. I was pleasantly surprised to see this teenage white boy as a tandoor wala once. :D I'm sure its not an all rare sight.

What's an India with a quotation mark? The word India was first used by imperialists! Before that it was small Rajdoms, Nawabdoms, etc. etc. Even when the Mughals ran a unified, northern India, it was still pretty much a very loose connection, and that's still fairly recent compared to ancient hinduism times.

I'm sure Biryani and Kites can be found in India, but when pitted up against the Pakistani counterparts, they're comparatively non-existent. When you manage to do this, then you can talk about Indian kite flying:

.
I thought kite flying has been banned already in Pakistan! One keeps hearing demands for that all the time.

It is considered more dangerous than firing AK-47 into the air, no. ;)
