The spectre of eviction that haunts Assam’s Bengali Muslims

The agreement is not crappy but enforcement is nearly impossible since Indians historically did not have personal identification system like Aadhaar which is being implemented now.

It is very difficult to first prove that someone has migrated from Bangladesh to India and on top of that when. And then government of India needs to obtain concurrence from government of Bangladesh to accept the same.

I would say all this is almost impractical, impossible and improbable.

Hence the focus is now on sealing and ensuring no further illegal immigration takes place now that the border agreement is in place with Bangladesh.

writing an agreement that cannot be enforced
if that is not crap what is crap ??

Bengali Muslim population has grown from 2 million to 11 million
I would say 50% of them are illegals

it is not the problem with the agreement.

agreement has done its job of getting a consensus of all parties on the cutoff date.

enforcing it is a challenge but it would be worse without an agreement.

what is the point of the agreement if you cannot enforce it ?

If I am an Assamese and want to preserve my culture there is only choice. Wage a low level campaign of intimidation and harrassment against Bengali Muslims until they leave the state.

P.S. I am not a Assamese and have no stake in this fight

And they are leaving but not to Bangladesh but to other parts of India. most of the domestic helps in south India are Bengalis from Assam.

Title should be : the spectre of eviction that haunts assam's illegal bangladeshi muslims.

This is absolutely needed.
The fear of law will at least reduce the influx of further illegals coming to India.

Coming to Assam,
First step if disenfranchise them. No Voting rights of any kind. No govt subsidies, including gas, electricity etc of any kind. No govt jobs of any kind. If anyone is working in any govt, they should be fired ASAP.

Ensure they don't leave to other states by curtailing their movement to West Bengal. Open only one route to them and that is back to Bangladesh.

A brief prelude to the problem

Assam is a state with huge diversity in demography. Every few miles the dress change, language change, culture, religion change. There are around 115 ethinic groups and 45 languages in Assam.

We have seen our fare share of ethinic fights which has been mainly due to cultural differences. Some were major fights resulting in number of casualties....but every time law got the better hand and the next day the enemies lives as neighbors once again.

Assam has its fare share of Muslims. Those who have been living there from before live and behave like Assamese and adjust with others just fine. But there have been an influx of new kind of Muslims, with completely different culture, language....These people's growth rate is sometimes more than double(20-24℅) to that of aborigines(9-15℅) which is very alarming. These people do not adapt to the local culture and are generally viewed with suspicion and distrust by the aborigines.

The Govt. have been playing Vote bank politics and these immigrants are just ideal for that. Immigrants are given amenities for the BPL, place to live; for instance reserved forest land.

On Topic: Good Job on the part of the Forest Department. There should not be any leniency in from their duty. Allowing in immigrants is one thing but to put them in reserve forest land is a criminal deed.
The media was completely silent when these mostly illigal immigrants were granted fake certificates and were permitted to live in the reserved forest lands.
