The search for home: Why Tibetans are leaving India

.
The thread is about leaving india not where they are going....why leave such a great place where even the locals leave?

Plenty of Indians leave India too. They migrate to UK, Austrlia, US, Canada etc.

Same with the chinese.

But why are they not migrating to pakistan or china or any of the arab lands ?

They are leaving "shinning" "super power" india...

So ? You want us to put them in "re-education" camps ?

.
Not really.

India want Tibet.

Do you think India want Tibet to independent?

At least the same as Bhutan status of today.

India uses Dalai Lama as the key to conquer Tibet.

Sounds like fantasy to me. I am aware however that India tries to improve relations with China and does not to dispute them over Tibet. That is because we still live in a world where might makes right ...

Dalai Lama calls on Tibetans to remain united as India drifts toward China

DHARAMSALA, INDIA (Reuters) - The Dalai Lama called on his people to remain united as the Tibetan community gathered on Saturday in a small hill town to mark 60 years of political asylum in India - although just one federal minister appeared at the event.

The “Thank You India” event had been scheduled for India’s capital, New Delhi, but was shifted to Dharamsala, a small town in the country’s north where Tibetans run a government in exile, as India tries to avoid a confrontation with China, which views the Dalai Lama as a dangerous separatist.

Officially, New Delhi says its policy toward the Dalai Lama remains the same, and the Tibetan government in exile says it moved the event to Dharamsala out of respect for India’s foreign policy needs. India’s culture minister was the only minister present at the event.

“Today we are celebrating 60 years in exile and we are confident, and we can see how our future shapes up,” the Dalai Lama said at the event.

He emphasized the “strong bond between India and Tibet”, saying the two shared a “deep connection of culture and literature”.

China took control of Tibet in 1950 in what it called a “peaceful liberation”. In March 1959, the Dalai Lama, then 23 years old, fled to India along with his followers.

Then-Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru welcomed the monk and allowed him to make Dharamsala his seat. But the ties have weakened as India tries to improve relations with China and avoid a standoff such as a 73-day military face-off along a stretch of their disputed border last year.

“From Nehru to Modi, we have followed a one-China policy,” Ram Madhav, the general secretary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party said. The links between India and Tibet were “very little political but more spiritual, religious and cultural,” he added.

Earlier this month, India issued an unprecedented ban on Tibetans holding a rally with the Dalai Lama in New Delhi to mark the 60th anniversary of the start of a failed uprising against Chinese rule.

The Dalai Lama also canceled a visit to the Indian border state of Sikkim this week, hosted by authorities there, officials say, lest it offended China.

That is in contrast to the Dalai Lama’s free movement within India, including the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, which China claims as its own.

Lobsang Sangay, the head of the Tibetan government in exile, was critical of China’s Tibet policy at Saturday’s event.

“It’s been 60 years since China’s illegal invasion and occupation of Tibet, 60 years of destruction of Tibetan civilization, Tibetan culture and Tibetan identity,” Sangay said, thanking India for its support.

Why do they leave the great india?

Same reason Indians leave great India. For better prospects.

Why did you leave pakistan ? or do you still live in pakistan ?

A sharp decline has been recorded in the number of Tibetan refugees in India — from 1.5 lakh to 85,000 in the last seven years — with a large number either migrating to the US or returning to China/Tibet, according to the government’s advisor on Tibet Affairs Amitabh Mathur.

How many of them returned to china ?

US offers free migration to "refugees". They get a good deal unlike chinese or Indians who apply for US residence.

Sounds like fantasy to me. I am aware however that India tries to improve relations with China and does not to dispute them over Tibet. That is because we still live in a world where might makes right ...

It is not a fantasy, but a hope.

China does not respect India enough to take us seriously. By the time they take us seriously, we will be enemies.

Unless there is a breakthrough.

The article doesn't say the exact number, I think China doesn't allow them to come to China since most of them were born in India and are Indians in China's eyes.

Yup, hence by question. Most of them have migrated to the US and other western nations as "refugees".

He has a point. Tibetans are relatively peaceful people. Most Western countries gives asylum & citizenship for refugees & there is absolutely no reservations to accept not only Tibetans anybody from any Buddhist country. Tibetans have a higher chance for getting job or asylum as they sympathize the Tibetans. Even the people support & are happy to accept them unlike refugees from Islamic countries who are looked at with fear & suspicion. The locals don't want Muslims in their country in western world or any Non Islamic country don't want Muslims to come to their country barring few Muslim countries where women are allowed to work or migrate for job who are accepted. For eg; Japan will not give employment visa to Pakistanis, Bangladeshis or Arabs nor accept refugees from there.

So Tibetans may leave India for better prospects & for higher standard of living, like Pakistanis wanting to go to other countries.

And the biggest truth is more than Tibetans leaving from India, Tibetans are migrating from Tibet (China).

Tip of the iceberg. Pakistan will be blind to these facts, but will come & go gaga over India.

Many present generation Tibetans who want to escape to India from the Chinese atrocities, don't do it because these Chinese torture the family back home & blackmail the Tibetans, so warn them not to try it. They are ok if they leave to any other country.

Most Muslim country including Pakistan don't bother about Tibetans leave alone giving refuge. Most Chinese neighbors fear China, so don't accept Tibetans, not India.

Tibetans are non-violent, loyal & trustworthy people. The long standing enmity with China is for Dalai Lama, including the 1962 war. We could have surrendered handed over them to China, but we don't dump people who put their trust in India & gave their love. We take the side of right.

BS. Tibetans now are leaving India for US and China because China and US can provided better living standard and personal career opportunities, Tibetans per capita GDP is several times of Indians.
