So i told @S.U.R.B. in reference to his status that 'The science we know originates from Isaac Newton.' But he dismissed it saying it was only my opinion. But i thought it was one of the most accurate things i've ever said. Now i want to invite this forum's physicists to give their valuable thoughts on this statement.

IMHO, your statement is correct but, perhaps, too all-encompassing in the use of "The". I believe that Newton stands as the single most important philosopher whose work led to modern science. I personally, would rank him number one, followed by Einstein. However, one cannot blithely overlook countless others such as Galileo, Darwin, Maxwell, Bohr, your namesake, Gauss, etc.

I'd disagree, modern Physics, definitely yes. But then again, observation is a key part of scientific process, which dates back to thousand of years. Newton, is in no doubt, the messiah of modern physics, but in no way is the origin.

It's only numbers, letters, symbols, and graphs. Can't be that difficult.

Newton contributed to mechanics and calculus but wasn't the only person. There were alot of others like Galileo who contributed to mechanics, as well as Leibnitz to calculus. I would say that the most influential scientist ever was Boltzmann, since thermodynamics is THE theory responsible for the industrial revolution, chemistry, materials science, biology, etc.

But didnt Newton introduce the idea of conservation of energy when he said that a body in motion will continue moving with a constant velocity in a straight line forever. Before that people thought that a moving body will stop on its own.
If there was no Newton one would never arrive at the second law of thermodynamics, which says that the extractable energy of a system decreases with time as i understand. For example, if one tried to extract mechanical energy from the moon as it revolves around the earth, the moon will crash into the earth. But first the nature of the motion of the moon has to be known which Newton explained.

actually, thermodynamics is completely independent of mechanics. It doesn't even require quantum mechanics to be right in order to work. that is because thermodynamics is simply the study of random systems. What that system is isn't important. However, current usage of thermodynamics is mostly in materials science, chemistry and biology.

2nd law of thermodynamics: it is actually derivable for a system that is completely generalized. All it requires is that it has some conserved quantity corresponding to energy, there is alot of particles, and that the system obeys equipartition (every configuration of particles has the same probability of appearing).

Strongly disagree. While Newton's contribution to Physics and Mathematics is immense, there is no one single starting point for Science. Physics itself has moved on from Newtonian mechanics to Quantum. It is a process of continuous progression, many people contributed to its timeline. Newton is one of the greatest contributors but to state that modern science originated from him is preposterous, besides there is more to Science than Physics and Mathematics.
