Genetically they are mostly Finno Ugric. British people speak Germanic but they are mostly genetically Celtic. Turkish people speak Turkic but they are mostly genetically European. Conquerors leave little mark in the genetic pool but contribute to language which mixes.

what studies do you have to prove this?
if anything finno ugrics were so remote that they couldn't possibly have any input in slavic peoples.

in fact when proto slavs appeared they basicly showed up in places where the remnants of the ostrogoths, alans and huns were present and withering at the end of the migration period.

Russia was originally inhabited by Finno Ugrics. Likewise, Britain was originally inhabited by Celtics. Modern Russian is mix of Varangian Viking conquerors and native Finno Ugrics. Likewise, modern English is mix of Germanic conquerors and native Celtics.

Because of history, Russia still lay claim to Finland and Estonia which are Finno Ugric. Finland and Estonia used to be Russian territory. Russia considers all lands inhabited by Finno Ugrics as legit Russian land.

Recent genetic studies shown that Slavic people are almost 100% genetically the same from Western Polish borders to Eastern Russian borders. And surprise - there are much more Baltic genes in Slavic people than Slavic genes! So basically when proto-Balto-Slavic entity existed around 1500 years ago most of those people were Baltics (and their area lasted Eastward to Volga river!), but Slavic minority conquered the greater Baltic area and imposed Slavic language on Balts. So Slavic (at least Western and Eastern one) people are actually Balto-Slavic. There is some Finnic admixture in some areas but it is insignificant, so as Germanic, Turkic, Scythian and others.
