That's because of the rains. Demand from agricultural pumps is much reduced as is consumption for cooling. Come summer, it will return with a vengeance.

Do you know what is the status with Vallur thermal power plant? It was supposed to go for production earlier this year.

Thats not how central nuclear agreements work...no state has all rights to the power ( central projects ) because then the grid would be of no use. No states will share electricity. Certain states will be at permanent disadvantage. NE will be completely left out. And no electricity at the time of emergency.

That is true but I believe Amma is up for some bargain considering the unrest against Koodankulam plant and how she handled the unrest when Indian government was struggling to contain the unrest.

Law & order is a state subject, not central. This is India, every politician knows the tricks of others. If GoI allocated the entire power to TN, other states would go to court, simply can't be done.

I do not dispute that and I am not trying to justify anything here. I am being objective and trying to interpret what amma is upto. Period.


Having stated that here is my interpretation - she has worked up some bargain with the central government in the way she stepped in after the by-elections to quell the protests while staying indifferent for months before that to the point the koodankulam protesters started believing that she was supporting them.

You are assuming that Amma and her party are going to rule TN permanently.

It's all about the number of MPs a state sends to the Parliament. So nothing can be said as impossible.
