A Norwegian soldier in Faryab province, Afghanistan, armed with the HK416N rifle.
OBERNDORF AM NECKAR, Germany (BulgarianMilitary.com) – The Norwegian Armed Forces will receive HK416 Assault Rifle Sets from Heckler & Koch under a supply order of the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency as announced on 8th Januarry 2019 from the company. The order is at approximately 22 million Euro and will run over 36 months, starting this year, learned BulgarianMilitary.com
In fact, the Norwegian Armed Forces was the first customer that adopted the HK416 in 2007.
Although the design of the Heckler & Koch HK416 is in large part based on the AR-15 class of weapons, specifically the Colt M4 carbine family issued to the U.S. military, it uses an HK-proprietary short-stroke gas piston system originally derived from the ArmaLite AR-18 (the same system was also used in Heckler & Koch’s earlier G36 family of rifles). It is a modern and highly modular assault rifle for law enforcement and military users. It can be tailored in accordance with the requirements of the relevant customer and that will not reduce at all its accuracy and handling safety.
Heckler & Koch has equipped many European Armies with a standard assault rifle for decades. Some of the users are Norway (HK416), France (HK416AIF), Spain (G36), Germany (G36), Lithuania (G36), Latvia (G36) and the UK (SA80A2/A3). In addition, there is quite a large number of military and police commando units that have adopted one or several weapon models manufactured by Heckler & Koch.
