What's new

The new facility of Harris Coporation is up and running.

Quoting u from post#22

What i am trying to ask is that if the above thing u said.Is it the official Position of Army ? If it is then doesn't it imply that so far ISI hasn't been able to penetrate the talibs.

This position is from officers having first hand combat experience at the western front, intel guys & the signal guys working in respective positions.

And the thing i talked about doesn't means Talibs aren't been penetrated. They get penetrated time to time, intel guys have sources which keep providing them info at different level. But with respect to this intel interception thingy, the most likely scenario is that high level / sophisticated interception of PA communication is provided from 3rd party sources. Talibs may be having rudimentary level interception equipment, not the sophisticated one.

In some cases, Harris sets were found with certain Talib cmdrs.. initially it was supposed that the talibs had taken some off PA troops..but a through check of the inventory(all radio's) have serial numbers( including their batteries and antennas) revealed that the Radio's were not from the PA's stock. It may have been plausible to assume that the Talibs took it off the Americans or Afghans, but learning how to use them is different. Manuals dont come with these radio's.. even if you manage to steal a box.
So somebody taught the Talibs how to use the various CNR(combat net radio) modes...Who?

And though the Harris systems are immune from being listened into using another harris system in hopping mode(as you need the day's modulation and encryption "keys") ..in basic AM and FM modes you can listen in.

Am sure they must have kept some back door for this day and situation

As it was the most easily available (read purchasable through FMA)option back in 2003 when the decision was taken.
Apart from the contracts remaining which have to be completed, no further purchases of Harris Radios are planned.

Can't say about PA but FC is still buying Harris equipment and in large numbers...

The FC's Harris sets are being paid for by the US. What better way to return that money back to the US economy than by purchasing Harris sets.

the Harris deal was/is worth US 80m signed a few years ago - delivery of the sets is almost completed.

what models of Harris corporation radio are in use with Pakistan Army?
i know that PA uses AN/PRC-77 Portable Transceiver from Associated Industries that provides short range radio communication.
can anyone guide what make or model are we actually getting from Haris Corporation??

Highband Network Radio (HNR) from Harris Corporation
The HNR provides an IP-based network, with links capable of data rates >25 Mbps, for VoIP, video, and C4I services. The radios work equally well fully mobile or fixed. The soldier merely turns on a single switch and the HNR automatically links with others located within line-of-sight. Using a directive beam antenna, HNRs automatically create the entire network using only a single frequency. A directive beam also permits simultaneous use of the same frequency between nodes not in each other’s RF path. The antenna operates in the 4.5–4.99 GHz band and mounts directly to a mast or vehicle. HNR uses the Highband Networking Waveform (HNW). Software features in the HNW enable an HNR to establish communications in seconds without human intervention. As the nodes move, temporary blocks to line-of-sight links are automatically routed around the MESH network (self healing). When line-of-sight is obtained, connectivity is reestablished (self forming) and the “orphan” HNR automatically rejoins the network. The radios autonomously negotiate among themselves the allocated time and data rates to use to pass traffic. HNRs can discover and establish direct wireless links with over ten neighbor nodes within view. Further, it will associate with its neighbors’ neighbors and keep track of their locations, facilitating connectivity among nodes where LOS may not exist.

HNR Key Features:
Single frequency operation: single switch setup, no antenna alignment
Automatic management of data rates and times of transmission with its neighbors
Automatic, in-band neighbor discovery and control
Directive beam antennas provide long-range connectivity and simultaneous frequency reuse
Radios communicate with one another at-the-halt or on-the-move with no operator intervention
Full hemispherical antenna coverage enables multipoint-to multipoint links among radios, thereby creating an unusually robust network GUI-based radio manager allows network tailoring and optimization in real time from any node
AES Transmission Security (TRANSEC) for all RF transmissions
Supports IPv4/v6 protocols

Highband RF Unit from Harris Corporation:
Designed for the military, the Highband RF Unit (HRFU), together with the radio, provides the warfighter with automated communications access to multiple Highband Networking Waveform (HNW) users simultaneously. The HRFU allows the HNW to create self-forming, self-healing, and ad hoc links across the battlespace using Directive Network Technology (DNT). The HRFU’s narrow antenna beams are automatically steered by the HNW to provide extended range and improved throughput capability. High directivity and low antenna sidelobes also provide inherent low probability of intercept and low probability of detection (LPI/LPD) capability.
Operationally, the HRFU is the antenna subsystem for the Highband Networking Waveform (HNW). The HRFU provides full hemispheric coverage to allow HNW nodes to affiliate and transmit data over 360 degrees in azimuth. As air nodes are added to the battlespace, the HRFU will steer its antenna beam in elevation to close the air-ground links formed.
Features:
Modular, rugged package
Optimized size, weight, and power
Full hemispherical coverage (OTM and ATH)
Multiple mounting configurations
Supports HNW (Highband Networking Waveform) operation
Coverage for terrestrial and aeromobile links
Electronically steered directive antenna beams
Low antenna sidelobe levels
Dual or single band configurations (C and/or Ku)

Modular Architecture:
Mechanically, the HRFU's modular design enables integration on multiple platforms and node types providing both OTM and ATH operation. Where long distance strategic coverage is desired, the HRFU may be mounted to the top of a fixed tower. For tactical deployments, the HRFU is easily utilized on quick-erect masts to provide OTM operation (mast stowed) or ATH operation (mast deployed). For platforms requiring a lower-profile OTM solution, the HRFU may be configured into separable antenna and electronics assemblies.
