The Life Of Pi

.
Nice movie...excellent detailing and good 3D effects
Its a well directed movie you can actually feel the emotions/experiences of the protagonist by watching the scenes

.
Its a great movie. Even greater is the book....assuming you have the power of imagination.

too much hype. watched it. disappointed. maybe because I knew the story and they have shown everything in trailers already. 6.5/10.

I have read the book. It's by a Frenchman. The hero in the story is an Indian kid but it's a very esoteric story. It's about the human sprit and our ability to cope with the most horrid situations and sanitise it in our mind. I do not wish to ruin the movie for anyone other than to say the story is not cuddly. The setting and the personalities are Indian, Japanese, Chinese etc but the story is an universal one.... It's nothing really to do with India or Indian culture as such.... PI is the proverbial Everyman...

The animals are metaphors.... A great book that some may like me see as a story of belief in God and others may see it as completely from an humanist perspective. Judging by the ads its CGIs are amazing ....... The book I will recommend, the film no idea as have not seen it..... But it's a very very harsh story but where ultimately human will triumphs above unbelievable adversities.

Great another film to perpetuate a stereotype of Indians. Shameless are you people who enjoy films that are destructive to our community.

Please read the book ..... It's nothing to do with India or indians as such. it certainly does not in any way denigrate Indians. I believe the French author made Pi Indian as a vehicle to facilate exotic metaphorical animals and also because India allows for a narrative of spirituality and multi religious culture. It is a commentary on man.....not Indians specifically

Some books are just meant to be books. Its hard to visualize the thought process of Pi in a movie.

Kinda like Hemingway's " Old man and the sea."

Watched it today. It was just ok, liked the beginning, but got kinda bored towards the end. Nothing great tbh. Watching Talaash tomorrow, been hearing good things from reliable friends. Not for the masses though I guess.

Has anybody seen it ? How is it ?

Yeah, I definitely want to see it, both for the story and the visuals.

whats it about and is the location bengal?

It's about belief in God v/s atheism. The writer doesn't take a position either way; he wants each reader to decide for himself/herself.

Although born Hindu, the main character Pi believes in Hinduism, Islam and Christianity.

The book won a lot of prizes and was one of the most discussed books a few years back (2007).

P.S. Location-wise, most of the story deals with Pi's shipwreck and journey on a small boat while migrating from India to Canada.

Nice visuals and the way story was presented is commendable. You should see it at least once.
