What's new

The Indo-US alliance. Then why you need US support everytime?

US may need Pakistan, but don't say they need Pakistan more than India. This is just laughable given the geo-political reality.

They do, India cannot offer what we can. In the future this may change, but as of now the US needs us more.

Please give specific examples what Pakistan can give US that India cannot.

Please give specific examples what Pakistan can give US that India cannot.

Pakistan has always been willing to do what the US says, so long as the price is right. For example, during the Cold War Pakistan helped the US fund militants in Afghanistan. Pakistan's willingness to cooperate is something that comes in handy, where as India is a more non-aligned country that prefers Russia to the US.

Also, there comes the case of Afghanistan. Pakistan is used to get NATO supplies to Afghanistan, and if the US gets on Pakistan's bad side, those supply lines will be cut (as they have been before), and the Northern Alliance will start to starve. Not to mention Pakistan has a fair amount of influence over the Taliban. If the US gets us angry, we can tell the Taliban to stop talking and start shooting, and we will gladly supply them. If the US gets in our good books, we can tell them to perhaps be more lenient and we can threaten to cut supplies. The fact that we support the Taliban is a very useful tool, a bargaining chip with the US if you will.

And what would happen after that?
We will have a much larger Israel right next to us :)

You don't know where all out nuclear weapons are, if you did you would get rid of them ASAP.

As for going through an alternate route to Afghanistan, like you said, it's more expensive. As for India, they will always remain good friends with Russia too, your country knows they aren't as willing to do the dirty work as we are. Not to mention if you get us too angry, we can always help militants in Afghanistan more and let the NATO backed NA rot, we have a lot of cards to play.

Why would we get rid of something( your nuclear assets) and create an unnecessary international turmoil, when there is no clear and present danger.

You seem to think your anger is something we need to be concerned about, and you seem to think you will have no consequences to face.

This is a very good and balanced analysis about Pakistan's strategic positioning considering the threats and opportunities we may see in the region. I am more pleased as it has come from a Bangladeshi brother and this shows no matter how far our countries may be or what ever has been done before we are still close in spirits ! I hope Pakistani establishment can follow the strategy mentioned by the writer and also bring both our countries and also like minded countries closer then before as we all face similar enemies .

The US very obviously wants to get rid of Pakistans nukes, the sanctions that were placed when we got them made it very obvious.

Next administration which is now more likely to be Mrs Clinton and less so of Trump have one thing in common their love of India. While in Trump's case hostility towards Pakistan. The noises are very apparent about downgrading Pakistan if not open hostility and their is nothing much Pakistan can do about that. The perceptions built in the U.S. over the last decade are decidedly anti Pakistan. According to Secretary Clinton India must be raised in stature over time to be a U.S. partner in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Indians also readily accept Pax Americana and consider themselves a beneficiary of the order. Though Trump may have brought some hostility my guess is Secretary Clinton may bring in sanctions. Also Iran has yet to play it's cards... Iran was an ally of Israel in Shah's time and after much finagling they may yet be an ally! The alliance of next decade may very well be of India, Iran, Israel and the United States. Afghanistan has merely become a pawn and it could be assuaged if Pakistan can bring it under its control peaceably.
