Indian Army Is 5th Strongest Military In The World

While the Indian Military is the third largest in the world, it sits on the fifth spot when it comes to strength. Well, at least, according to a recent ranking published in a Credit Suisse report on globalization. Here, take a look at the rankings:

The first spot was obviously taken over by the US Army, thanks to its stockpile of 13,900 aircrafts, 920 attack helicopters, 20 aircraft carriers and 72 submarines. Then comes the Russian Army followed by Chinese, Japanese, and finally, the Indian Army, amongst the top 5 in the world.

The report also mentions that Russian and American warfare collectively account for a baffling 90 percent of the total nuclear warfare in the world. While we are still ages away from becoming as strong as the US or the Russian Army, it’s nonetheless a proud moment for all of us!

What an idiotic report, How on earth Pakistan (617000 active troops), is behind UK (147000) , Turkey ( 410,000) and France ( 202,000), How imbecile can you be. Here is the actual number of troops from globalfirepower, and lists all across the world, Active Military Manpower by Country

Indian Army is third largest in the world. And just around a lakh behind from US. Dont understand this 5th rank?

Okay got it. Japan should be behind India.

What year is this list from. Doesn't seem to be from 2015.

I think some retard prepare this list he only measures quantity totally forget war history, technology and latest equipment. Only moron can believe this.

The most reliable list should look like this (I am not adding Pakistan & India)
1-USA
2-Russia
3-China
4-France & UK
5-Italy / Germany & Israel
6-Turkey
IF you go buy Technical Evaluation France,UK,Germany & Israel are much Ahead China Rationally

. . . .
According to me:
Category 1 - USA
Category 2 - Russia
Category 3 - China, France & UK
Category 4 - India, South Korea, Israel & Germany
Category 5 -Turkey, Japan & Italy
Category 6 - Pakistan,Egypt & Australia
Category 7 - Iran

I think that it's become too close to call to put France and the UK in front of India in Category 3. They are constantly downsizing as their global responsibility shrinks. Their position in the Credit Suisse list is not insignificant; they simply don't need that kind of army any more. And not much is needed to maintain five or six good brass, drum and pipe bands, five regiments of ceremonial troops and a cavalry detachment.

It isn't likely that the Egyptian military is on par with Pakistan or with Australia, although I also doubt that the Pakistani services can match the Australian.

For the rest, your groupings are reasonable, keeping in mind that the original list that we are discussing would have taken a multitude of facts into consideration. I still think that is good, but your list is not to be scoffed at.

In your review you have made some great points. Its just that right now developed countries lead in technology and equipment whereas Developing countries are high on number of personnel in Forces.

The thing is, head on USA did great in 1990 at Desert Storm against Iraqi forces but gurella warfare and complete takeover of country have shown that technological edge still aint providing the punch. USA and NATO have not been able to contain Taliban in Afghanistan. Yet Pakistan suffered same problem and after multiple tries the Zarb e Azab has proved that Pak Army is decisively beating Talibans within Pak border with a mix of F16, land forces as well as newly developed strike drones.

Next Egypt army has bought Dassault Rafale and Australia's F35 will give these armies upper hand. So bottom line is Credit Suisse list is more about hardware whereas the troops training and motivation are not given any ratings in their list. I have rated them according to the mix of these both factors

In every category (barring attack helos and subs) Japan is behind India but Japan still finishes ahead? And Japan has 0 air craft carriers (LHD aren't air craft carriers) with India having 2 but they receive equal scores on that?

Anyway, a highly unimaginative and flawed analysis IMHO.

+ Surprised to see the UK so low, it is usually ranked on par (if not just below) France.
