The whims of an emperor - nothing more.
Concept died along with Akbar....
Azad:
"I am proud of being an Indian. I am part of the indivisible unity that is Indian nationality. I am indispensable to this noble edifice and without me this splendid structure is incomplete. I am an essential element, which has gone to build India. I can never surrender this claim."
Azad said: "... Full eleven centuries have passed by since then. Islam has now as great a claim on the soil of India as Hinduism. If Hinduism has been the religion of the people here for several thousands of years Islam also has been their religion for a thousand years. Just as a Hindu can say with pride that he is an Indian and follows Hinduism, so also we can say with equal pride that we are Indians and follow Islam. I shall enlarge this orbit still further. The Indian Christian is equally entitled to say with pride that he is an Indian and is following a religion of India, namely Christianity."
This Azad guy seemed to have followed Deen i Ilahi as well it seems. I recently found his statue being burnt and dragged or whatever and was curious to find more about him.
Interesting stuff.
We have his birthday celebrated as National Education day in schools ... he is behind establishing the IITs in India one of the best Education minister we ever had ... I can rate him in league of Sir Syed (AMU) , Rabindernath tagore
(Shantiniketan) .... Univrsity grant commission started by him is still supervising the higher education in India(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_Grants_Commission_(India))
He was awarded by the highest civilian award by Indian govt.
He was an Enndian Enndian no doubt about that.
i am more interested in his philosophical work regarding Islam in India or as Enndians saw Islam
What is Enndian ?
I am not sure if he was an Islamic philosopher , but as far din-ellahi is concerned , mulle jats are the living example of the initiate by Akbar the great.

and that is my contention as well that Deen i Ilahi only evolved to take up a new form. Philosophy never dies it only evolves.
The word Indian was coined by the colonials and to show my disgust at such racist behavior i have coined the word Enndian.
Din-I-illahi is the best way to make people close and that's one of the reason people call Akbar great , still we have living examples of Ras Khan , Bulle Shah , baba Farid and many more ...and see how we turned up this part of world now
Maybe this Akbar fellow was onto something.
This is a soil where all ideology has flourished and given full freedom to evolve and expand. Here many ideologies are refined and evolved in much better form and shape. Islam got refined a lot under the influence of vedanta. Had this continued, Islam would have been spreading peace and brotherhood and we would not have been seeing what we see in the name of Islam today. This is the power of this soil which turn anything into gold to which it touches.
