I dont understand how no one has posted it yet.
The Left parties have withdrawn support to the Congress and BJP has moved a No Confidence Motion. Now the Congress has to prove that it has the majority or it might have to step down.

This occurred because of the Prime Minister's remark that India was going ahead with the IAEA meet, the Left parties in turn withdrew support.

Congress has an ally now in the Samajwadi Party which has given its support to the government. The government needs 272 MP's to survive and prove a majority.

The fate of the nuclear deal now hangs right in balance. If the government survives then the deal will go through, else not. Its quite simple now.

Lets see of congress get vote of confidence as MM singh said withdrawl of leftiest wont affect the government.

But its clever on part of BJP and hardliners who had succeeded in bringing down congress in Held Kashmir and at the same time built envirnoment for fall of it at centre by playing nuke deal card wisely

The BJP had nothing to do with the govt. falling in J&K.

:) the violent protests were staged by the hardliners besides BJP in Indian held Kashmir after that land transfer orders were withdrawn.

They had created a mess in the held valley.

Are you kidding me? The BJP protests were miniscule in comparison with the total chaos that reigned in the valley for well over 2 weeks.

That resulted in Mufti leaving the coalition and hence the government fell.

Jana ji, atleast maintain some semblance of objectivity while analyzing India's internal politics.

Malay,

I was under the impression that with the SP's support the government was not in any danger, therefore the withdrawal of the left will be reduced to an act of protest high on symbolism and low on effect.

.
Left parties are withdrawing 60 MPs and Mulayam is bringing in 39. So that reduces the UPA strength by 21.

Malay says 272 MP's to survive, so where does that leave the UPA with SP support?

This should be simple mathematics - they either have the numbers or they don't.

Is further horse trading going to be necessary?

I highly doubt that too many MPs are going to change hands at this hour. the NDA seems a solid enough block, so maybe some smaller parties and independents may be up for grabs.

I'll check out the facts and reply.

OK Wikipedia says that 46 seats are needed for UPA to say in power. so 46-39 gives us 7 seats.

7 seats are up for grabs.

The UPA consists of :

* Indian National Congress (145 MPs)
* Rashtriya Janata Dal (23 MPs)
* Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (16 MPs)
* Nationalist Congress Party (10 MPs)
* Pattali Makkal Katchi (6 MPs)
* Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (5 MPs)
* Lok Janshakti Party (4 MPs)
* Kerala Congress (J) (2 MPs)
* Indian Union Muslim League (1 MP)
* Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party (1 MP)
* Republican Party of India (Athvale) (1 MP)
* All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (1 MP)

7 seats eh - well, this be close...

Kudos to MM Singh for standing up for what he believes is in his nation's best interest - even if it means sacrificing his government.

It appears that UPA + SP will make it 270 MPs.

The shortfall of 2 (plus any overhead) is going to come from independents and smaller parties.

Good.
In such turbulent times it is good that India remains stable. We have a financial and food crisis rearing its head. We need states in the region to remain stable.

I agree. MM Singh has managed to put 12 parties together in a coalition and make it work for India and here in Pakistan, we have a useless xxxxxxx of a King maker (Zardari) and his idiotic cohort Nawaz Sharif who can't get two parties together for the sake of Pakistan's stability and prosperity. This is what happens when one or two think that the country is their personal fiefdom:tdown:.

India is in a political chaos, but still holding!!

The Communists have always been treacherous and so it is no new thing!

Yet, I have to grudgingly concede that they have a point. Why is the govt so shy of showing them or the nation the text of the Agreement with the IAEA?
