The first HAL manufactured aircraft will be delivered in 2017/2018 and Indian sources indicate that the anticipated production rate will be six aircraft per year. That would mean that MMRCA production at HAL would take place over 18 years!

hope this is not true, can someone clarify as to what no. of MMRCA aircrafts will be produced every year by HAL? IMO to boost the IAF no. of squadrons, HAL has to produce at least 1 squadron per year.

In short- come 2022-5 IAF will not be a force you wanna mess with! Easily in top 2/3 by 2030 in terms of capabilities and reach.

Nice article. Very much informative for a non-defence geek(guys apart from us!).

These long term planning will deliver a bright future for IAF.

It will start with 6 aircrafts per year but eventually the production capabilities will be ramped up as with Su-30MKI. Tbh, the sukhoi production rate is still not flattering..

Exactly, we have to learn to assemble first and more importantly to absorb ToT, later the production will be increased, that's a normal step for a production line.
Btw, nothing wrong with the MKI production line today, the plan to have 140 x fighters produced by 2015 is still going well, while the additional 40 (2 directly from Russia), are planned to be produced in just 2 years.

i saw a interview of some Drdo officials.....
they said the production capacity of 2nd year is always greater than of first.acc. to then production inc. in a ascending format with respect to increasing years.

Dude......18 years is long gap. i hope it will complete in less than 10 years.

. . .
I think MKI rate is/will be soon ~20-25/year.

Yes and it was realized full 12 years of signing of contract. This is lackadaisical to say the least.

U know US level ? at present more than 50 F35s are being produced every year with all the glitches etc.. that's called some manufacturing strength..

In war, even if Russia allows us to manufacture SU-30MKIs indiscriminately, how are we gonna produce them ? India's Military-Industrial complex is TOTAL FIZZ !!

You've got to start somewhere and Indian military industrial capacity is growing day by day have no doubt.

And the plans may be to produce 50 F-35/year but they are not doing so right now. f-35 hasn't even finished testing and certifying phases let alone serial production and end-user deliveries.

.
I am not that worried at all, we are getting upgraded Mig 29, Mirage and Jags and Rafale and Super SU 30.

Jaguars are really prone to SAMs both Low and High altitude highly unlikely that it would be used against China but in indo-Pak scenario it would play crucial role but deploying against China is kamikaze.

wiki is inflated and false but aside from wiki IAF hinted Jaguars-mig-27s would fly well till 2025, i hope these aircraft won't go through mig-21s hardship and reputation.

just giving an idea of the quantum of gap in HAL's capabilities and major power like US. And yes I was actually talking of the production rate of F35s once it gets IOC-I.
