The goal of the US/SVN alliance was maintain partition, else there would have been many more bombing campaigns that would have crippled the NVA. I know plenty about Vietnam, i also know the US lost 60,000 men and thousands of aircraft...and i was aware that the US had restrictions when it came to flights over certain areas, i was hoping this thread would be civilized and on topic but when Russia is involved that's impossible.

This thread has turned into a clown show full of anti Russian bashers and US fan boys. Every thread related to Russia turns out just like this.

This thread started off with an informative article about Russia's modernizing Air Force. There was no need to compare or compete. Every nation does what is in its own limits to safeguard itself from every possible threat, and our opinions wont change a thing.

Whatever the Americans COULD do in Vietnam, they DID it without any reservation or hesitation of any sort, except for throwing a nuclear bomb, and that too because they feared the resulting nuclear fall-out may cause problems in her other South East Asian colonies (Philippine, Thailand etc.). There is no shortage of arrogant and ignorant Americans (and their mental slaves) who still believe that the Vietnam war could have been won (some idiots even think they actually won) if some more men were sent over, if some more bombing campaigns were carried out, if some more this, and if some more that.

There WAS a reason that Nixon finally decided to pull out the US troops otherwise even in the beginning of his tenure, he only escalated the war (Linebacker II) though originally he had won the 1968 Presidential elections on the slogan "New leadership will end the war and win the peace in the Pacific".

Some images of what American COULD do, and what American and their South Vietnamese allies DID to the civilian population in the name of 'winning the war'.

And the best part is that, of all the Hollywood War Movies we see, all of them portrays Americans as the winner of all battles.

Mind you, It was erstwhile U.S.S.R and now Russia, which stopped/ finished WWII.

1. US helped the Mujahideens against the Soviets, why?

So that Soviets can have their Vietnam in Afghanistan. Nothing more. US created these monsters, and these monsters created 9/11. Thousands of innocent people died in 9/11 attacks because of so called intellectual foreign policy masters of US of A.

2. US helped Pakistani dictators since time immemorial, why?
Because they were anti-india, as simple as that. But did USA ever think in those times to have a democratically elected government in Pakistan. NO, because that would not serve US's position to contain Indian even in those ages.

A stable Pakistan without Taliban and Al-Qaida would have been one among the fastest growing economies. But, why would US care?
They use and then dispose.

Are these not massive foreign policy blunders? I can give more examples, but I pity them. They still do not understand.

It is inevitable, else what is the point of 'modernization' in the first place? If you are going to 'modernize', the first step in the process is to examine potential adversaries and their capabilities then compare the analysis to your current capabilities. Either you are satisfied with the status quo. Or do not. At the very least, you should have parity of forces to convince potential adversaries that it is not worth their while to militarily engage with you, especially if those potential adversaries are nearby. No one is ever satisfied with parity of forces.

I know more than you think i do, but that's is not what the discussion is about, and really i don't beleive i'm flooding the discussion with anything, i'm simply defending my country, does that make me a bad person? Remember it is not me that's making fantastic patriotic claims that Russia can beat the US if only the US didn't have nukes, i'm only stating that our air force is improving. That is what the thread is about isn't it?
