The froth of Khan

Well there could be many, take that hardworking student's 2nd position for a starter! and I have read a lot of articles by Priacha and it seems that his world starts by criticising Imran Khan, Zaid Hamid, Ali Azmat and Hameed Gul and pretty much ends at it!

This is not even funny now. This guy seriously needs to get a life.

what a hotch-potch of role models u have!

For folks here defending Imran Khan's comments against Ghauri, you don't know what a racial comment is. If Imran's conscientious was clear he would have taken the DNA test, but his continual refusal to do so is an admission of guilt.

And in fact I am surprised by his political leanings and associations with conspiracy theorists. A man as well traveled as him, as well educated as him and as respected as him could have surely done so much better.

I am listening Imran Khan's views on Politics, Pakistan, Islam, Jihad etc and I amazed that a person who was so westernized in his early life can have a such fantastis and sound view like a well studied muslim scholar.
What Imran was in the past is a different issue, but he is much, much better than this anti Islam MQM thugs who even doesn't want the name "Islamic" in the name of "Islamic Republic of Pakistan". If a person repent on his sins truly he is forgiven by Allah. These MQM thugs are not god to judge him. Just research their past including Altaf Hussain, Babur Ghauri etc and you will find that they have tested all sins and not left even one.
Imran can be a gift for Pakistan if he comes in power alone or in an alliance. We can hope many revolutionary changes in the field of economy, education, healthcare, defence, science n technology as well as justice system.

what political career? - last time he had to go to some remote area of mianwali to win election by 5000 votes! - his party in the last 15 years has won 1 seat (his), and in the recent by-elections in swat where their campaign slogan was 'stop this war', his party got hammered!

we admire him for his 'feats' on the cricket field, and building a cancer hospital but unfortunately he is 'out of his depth' when it comes to politics.

the best thing he can do is to now pitch-in and 'save' Pakistan cricket. we will again admire him for his efforts.

I would call it a lack of sensibility on part of people of Pakistan, rather than his incompetence as a politician.. really one should be able to differentiate between a corrupt and hopeless thug and a decent, educated and honest politician, despite of his some controversial stands on some issues!

Next time if you were accused of adultery with a women living in USA without any substantial proof on a national television, i suggest you to go to US and get a DNA test to prove yourself innocent in front of that idiot!

The froth of Khan

Posted by Nadeem F. Paracha on 01 28th, 2010

Coming from a highly educated, cultivated, and somewhat liberal background, Khan had slipped into reverse gear by the time he decided to enter politics in the early 1990s. In other words, instead of looking forward to becoming an integral part of a new, democratic, and General Zia-less Pakistan, Khan struck an ideological partnership with shadowy characters who were hell-bent on keeping the country stuck in the 1980s – a decade when Pakistan pulled and damaged all of its important political, economic and social muscles under the stressful weight of a myopic dictatorship and the damaging jihad that a dictatorship sponsored in Afghanistan.

Nadeem F. Paracha is a cultural critic and senior columnist for Dawn Newspaper and Dawn.com.

I am suprised that someone like IK who has lived a life of what may best be described that of a Pakistani Hugh Hefner has now doubts on the path forward.

While he may pontificate on making peace with the taliban, I wonder what the taliban would do to his ex wife in UK if she walked around with her face un-covered in Waziristan or to the US lady who bore him a child out of wedlock ?

I am sure its nice to pontificate when your Islamic sins are safely hidden in the West.

You know to an outsider, this guy Nadeem Paracha seems to talk a lot of sense. Its his ability to critique the most esteemed of things is what seems to irk the domestic audience. Sort of a devil's advocate. India too has its fair share of such writers/journalists. Arundhati Roy, the Tehelka guy and Khushwant Singh to an extent. These people seem to echo a voice thats not of the majority but still relevant. At the same time, one can understand their perspective if one tries to step away from the emotions that seek to cloud our mind.

And I believe Dawn as a newspaper, has plenty of such journalists, besides Paracha, there's Hussain (Irfan?), Cyrus Almieda and Kamran Shafi. The latter seems to be quite reviled on PDF. But the very fact that these people are carrying on writing for so many years, (most of them have grey hair) reflects on their acceptability by the audience. Otherwise they would have disappeared into oblivion. It means some if not all agree with what they say. And that I feel is pretty important in itself.

I wont mind actually, if she sponsors my first class travel :D

But jokes apart, you should really read more. She isn't American. She is British, was a rich socialite in the 70s and 80s and is now living in the US. And Imran Khan the playboy, was pretty well known in UK's party circuits when he was studying in Oxford.

And that women had no motive to accuse him. Do you think she was after his money? She was a heiress herself. There's no smoke without fire and knowing Imran's ways he left a whole box of matchsticks there.

But seriously, what do we care. Its his own personal matter. Lets stick to the topic.

He was all that in past he had this change of heart when she left him may b ... i never knew he will turn a fundo

Personal errors and mistakes aside, the one thing which Imran has going for him is his honesty and commitment to his work.
When he was in the Assembly he was the only elected member i recall who did not travel everywhere with a huge police escort.
He did a lot of work in his constituency and was available for the people.
His work for Pakistan in the form of the Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital is also something i will always be in debt to him for.

I too am frustrated by many of his statements but i know one thing that he is not corrupt and that is something that outweighs everything else when i take every possible scenario into perspective, the core issue which faces us is the corrupt being in charge of our affairs.
He may not have evolved to be an ideal politician or leader but whom do i call a good leader in the current lot?

His views on accountability, justice, education and health being the priority are spot on...when he was elected he proved himself a decent and honest man, that is also what we should be focusing on when we talk about his political career, rather than his colorful past life or his views about Taliban.

He has a lot to learn and i hope that he does, but when i hear about how he is not a politician i will need to remind myself and all my other fellow Pakistanis as to what we have been seeing in the name of politics in the last 7 decades...if this is what politics means then we are better off with politically inept guys rather than the political icons of our current mainstream parties under whose watchful eyes we have only suffered from corruption, inflation and an entirely deflated economy...

Just a food for thought my friends, when we all talk about corruption then at least admire the lack of corruption in Imran and do not dismiss him entirely as a moron...need i remind you of all the other morons who are corrupt to the core and rule our motherland?

Go to the market and buy groceries, pay your overcharged bills, pay your taxes which do not apply on those who own 90% of the wealth, wait for PM or the CM to pass by on a blocked road, see every tom, dick and harry roaming with 2 elite force police cars as an escort despite the major economic crisis...
Maybe you will realize the problems facing us and why we need guys like Imran to at least be out there...
Nawaz pays a few thousand rupees as Tax and same is for every one of our great political leaders who are mostly landlords owning thousands of acres, industrialists or wealthy businessmen etc.
The great Maulana Fazl ur Rehman had a land cruiser, a house, land etc which are all gifts and not owned by him...all these parties have leaders who do not pay more than a few hundred USD tax despite owning literally millions and even billions of dollars worth of assets and businesses...

Is it not a most cruel joke that i pay much more tax than Nawaz Sharif every year?
My net worth is not more than 140k USD if i throw in the house and everything my family owns and i have no other source of income rather than my salary...how much does Nawaz Sharif own?
Safely he owns at least a billion USD worth which is like more than 7000 times of what i own and look what he pays...a few thousand rupees!

This was just an example...We can pick hundred such cases from all the parties...just try to understand this and realize the mockery that is being made of the life of an honest citizen...
I would prefer an honest fool over these corrupt fools...these corrupt fools have destroyed an economy...these corrupt fools own 90% of the wealth and do not even pay 10% of the Tax!

The major threat facing us is corruption...for that Imran is the right kind of guy...
I am not saying that he is error free nor that all his views are correct, my point is that he still has some admirable traits which i see none of in the so called more politically correct choices.
I do disagree with many things Imran says but i still think him better than all the great leaders we currently have...is it a poor showing on part of our current leaders...yes it is.

Miawali may be a farfarlang area for you not for imran. That's his home town, going back to somebody's hometown to muster support isn't anything bad. I can understsnd your situation, you may be living in Karachi and that might be giving a sense of arrogance as well and ontop of that you may be a Babur Ghori fan but i can tell you one thing winning through votes, no matter how thin the margin is, is better then getting votes on a barrel of gun and getting all the campaign money by running a mafia.
