Egypt and Germany have agreed on a partnership to implement the first factory of its kind in Egypt and the African continent to manufacture "ultra-advanced laser and ultrasonic lathe machines.", the Egyptian presidency said in a statement that the factory will produce machines that are used in the basic industries of the business sector in all its fields.

After meeting Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Christian Tones, head of the German "DMG Mori" company, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Egyptian Prime Minister, witnessed today the signing ceremony of a partnership contract between the Arab Organization for Industrialization and the German "DMG Mori" company; To establish a factory for the production of CNC programmed automatic control machines in Egypt.

A shift in the Egyptian industry

Lieutenant General Abdel Moneim El-Terras, head of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, described, in an interview with "Sky News Arabia", the agreement signed with the German company as a "shift in the Egyptian industry," stressing that this factory is the first of its kind in the region, and that the company "DMG Mori", is considered one of the best international companies in the field of manufacturing this type of machines.

Lieutenant General Abdel Moneim El-Terras said that the establishment of this unique factory in Egypt and Africa supports the efforts of the Egyptian state to localize the industry and allow it to be exported abroad.

Completion in 18 months

The head of the "Arab Industrialization" clarifies that the authority chose the German partner to implement the project due to the quality of his product and its internationally known reputation, stressing that the establishment of the factory in cooperation between the two sides "is a strategic gain for Egypt."

The factory is scheduled to open and make its products available in the market in 2023, and a monthly follow-up report will be prepared for the implementation steps, while adhering to the target dates for implementation and the start of production.

The expected factory is fully automated and highly programmed to produce turning and milling equipment, according to a statement by the Egyptian Cabinet, and is located on an area of about 60,000 square meters.

The factory provides all capabilities for comprehensive technical solutions, which include flexible automation, complete digital transformation, and advanced flow assembly, by using automated guided vehicle transport systems, and production is linked to the annual capacity of more than 1000 machines, in addition to industrial digitization services for factories, as well as the establishment of an academy to train on that equipment.

In a statement, the Egyptian presidency stressed the importance of the process of localizing industry and transferring technology to Egypt, and praised the prestige and appreciation of the German expertise and personality in Egypt, due to its diligent and accurate work culture and high-quality production.

Trust in Egypt

Christian Tones, Chairman of the German International Company, confirmed in an interview with "Sky News Arabia" that it will not be satisfied only with supplying technology to manufacture machines to Egypt, but also very advanced technology will be localized in Egypt, expecting that the machines that will be manufactured on the land of Egypt will remain in service for a period ranging from 20 to 25 years.

Tones added that the machines that will be manufactured in Egypt will be distinguished by the economical cost of operating them, and their international quality, which will support the Egyptian national industry.

A German preference for Egypt

The head of "DMG Mori Holdings" stressed that he had been invited to Egypt to launch the partnership, and the officials of the Arab Organization for Industrialization had been contacted and the partnership relations were strengthened, adding that his company is keen to invest in Egypt in light of the large and unprecedented infrastructure, digital developments and the field of digital transformation and energy that the country is witnessing.

Regarding the German company’s choice of "the Arab Organization for Industrialization" for joint cooperation with it in establishing the machine factory, Tones said that the German company, "DMG Mori" that he heads, when entering a new market that has no partners in it, a "trustworthy" institution is sought, and that He hopes that cooperation with the Authority will result in the production of machines of the highest international quality.

The DMG Mori Academy will open a new training site in the new factory, to contribute to German education in educating qualified youth working in Egypt, as well as offering training courses in Egyptian schools and universities. With the aim of preparing enthusiastic youth for the modern work environment, as well as contributing to the modernization of industrial education.

Great that the productivity of the product line is excellent ; 1000 CNC machines per year..
Meaning, starting from 2023 to 2030 Egypt will manufacture 7000 German/Japanese CNC machines
Which means thousands of small and medium factories as the nucleus for the auto / aircraft / weapon feeding industries..

- The company contracted with Military Production to build a casting plant..
- The same company "DMG MORI" contracted with the Arab Organization for Industrialization to produce CNC machines..

What to understand is that Egypt will have the ability to cast metal from the ground up, then shape it to make machines, then with these CNC machines make anything, civil or military..

These machines have 3D scanners that visualize from the drawings and design the piece to be made in a three-dimensional way, and then produce it,.

This shows that the Egyptian state is very serious about 4th generation industry..

This is what is considered to be a huge real leap forward for the Egyptian industrial sector..
The manufacture of these CNC production machines will reduce their cost by a large percentage, which will give the opportunity for Egyptian small investors and young people to start their industrial projects..

There were too many project that young people and small investors have abandoned due to the high prices of the required CNC machines!

Best of all is that Egypt took the right to manufacture these CNC machines from the best one; DMG MORI that provides CNC machines capable of manufacturing the most accurate and important mechanical parts for industries, feeding all sensitive industrial sectors such as cars, airplanes and weapons .. Frankly speaking it is an excellent future aiming step..

There would be only two steps left, and if President EL-Sisi does it, it would represent a real start for sensitive industries ..

1- Opening a factory for the manufacture of Semiconductors in Egypt ..(Altough Taiwan has a monopoly now!)
“PCBs and start-ups in designing ICs and embedded systems do exist, but the semiconductors industry remains missing..

2- The second thing is the opening of an R&D center supported by the state with a big budget for research and development in the field of radars, avionics and guidance technology..


There are a lot of Egyptian startups in the fields of 4G and 5G, semiconductors, and IoT
But early on the largest global companies buy them..

For example:

The Egyptian company, Sysdsoft, was bought by the international company Intel ..
The Egyptian New portmedia company was bought by the international company Atmel
The Egyptian company, Riot Micro, was bought by the global company ST Microelectronics

The possibility to open branches of major technology companies for research and development in Egypt, as China does, will accelerate development..

Why was i first of all late liking this post, i should have been late. I was very joyful reading the news the other day. It is indeed a very good step and a leap forward to opening advanced industries in Egypt. I have confidence that Egypt would have the most Advanced industrial capabilites in Africa and the Middle East in the decade to come or by 2030.

Egypt will also be able to sell these machines to African countries and the Middle East.. and maybe more countries ..as it is acquiring not only the know how but the rights to these machines in the JV..
They will be cheaper to produce than the German ones.. but with the same quality..

This is part of President El-Sisi plan with the objective of reaching $100 billion in exports..

So i am gessing as well that this is contract signed. So the factory will propably ready by the end of next year 2022 and would be up and running for the production of 1000 CNC machines from 2023 and so on. Oh and i am assuming that they would be utilizing German components during the manufacturing of the machines and not fully manufacture them in Egypt.

The production line of the Factory to make the Machines is German.. and the Machines that make the CNC machines are German too.. but in 18 months ..you can call everything Egyptian.... .HaHaHa!

No parts imported..

It is a comprehensive JV with rights to produce the CNC machines under license.. and even sell them.. The name won't change..And Egypt will benefit in many ways as it will keep these production lines and also benefit in industrializing the country and on top of it it can even sell these machines in Africa and the middle east with the capability for maintenance and repair..

On the last video in post #1.. you can see an example of the production line with machines that make CNC machines..

Also look at the last part after that video in post #1..it is about casting the metal in Egypt..So there you go..

To tell you the truth.. this national project is of utmost importance..With the food self-sufficiency one..

I think in whole Egyptian history Morsi was only elected president. Good or bad, he should've completed his tenure and if he was bad then in the next election, he would've wiped out completely

Digitalization and intelligentization of manufacturing industry

Innovation in manufacturing technology: digitized and intelligent integrated manufacturing technology

Digitization and intelligentization will not only achieve innovation in mechanical products, but also achieve innovation in manufacturing technologies as generic technologies, developing the manufacturing industry towards integration of digitalization and intelligentization, thereby raising the level of product design, processing and management.

Innovation in design technology

It is possible to carry out the parallel and synergistic fully-digital design through the use of the digital intelligent design system that encompasses the product’s full life cycle and that possesses rich design database and is supported by simulation technology along with virtual reality, computer network and database support. Simulation of structure, performance and functions is optimized to be realistic, thus enhancing the product’s design quality and success rate for one-time development.

Example 8: Fully-digital design of Boeing 777/787 and ARJ21 aircrafts

Design of Boeing 777/787 is fully digital including that for full aircraft, parts testing and assembly of aircraft. All development and testing are carried out in parallel at different locations and departments; virtual reality technology is used to carry out simulated flight under all types of conditions. The technology has made it possible to achieve joining of the aircraft with its wings in only one attempt as well as success at its maiden flight. The development cycle is shortened by 40 % and re-work amount is reduced by 50 %.

Development of ARJ21 aircraft in China also adopts full 3D digital design technology and parallel engineering, with successful joining of the main parts at the first attempt and success during the aircraft’s maiden flight.

Innovation in processing technology

The first innovation involves that of manufacturing process technique. Digital technology has not merely spurred major innovations in processing principle (an example is the material and processing technique for 3D printing as mentioned above). Significant improvement in the precision level and productivity of all types of manufacturing techniques—and hence the level of workmanship for the entire manufacturing industry—is made possible with full application of digital and intelligent technologies such as simulation optimization, digital control, real-time testing of status information and self-adaptation control, etc. Below is one such example.

Example 9: Direction solidification of single crystal blade for aircraft engines

The engine is the heart of an aircraft. It is for this reason that the first batch of engines for our nation’s C919 aircraft had to rely on advanced foreign technologies.

Of the various parts of an aircraft engine, the most important parts are heating parts that are subject to extreme temperature, for which high-temperature alloy materials and their manufacturing technique hold the key. Indeed engine blades have evolved from axial crystal blade to directional columnar crystal blade to directional single crystal blade that is used today. High-temperature alloy single crystal blade is manufactured using vacuum melting, vacuum casting and directional solidification. During the process of directional solidification for aviation single crystal blades, optimized modeling simulation for the microstructures is enhanced by digital technology to carry out precision control. The result is enhanced quality and rate of finished product for single crystal blades.

The second innovation involves that of manufacturing equipments and systems. Digital and intelligent technologies have enabled rapid development of CAD, CAM, CAPP and digital production and installation, thus significantly enhancing the functionality, performance and level of automation for the production system. At the same time,

integration of such technologies enables the formation of flexible manufacturing cell, digital factory floor and even digital factory. This has the effect of continuous enhancement of the production system’s level of flexible automation, as well as allows it to be developed into intelligent production system characterized by awareness, decision-making and execution.

Innovation in management technique

The objective of management is to seek optimization of the product life cycle and even the company’s overall layout, as well as its best operating model. Integration and application of digital and intelligent technologies will allow the formation of the computerized integration production system, the integrated intelligent product system and even the digitized corporation. They will enable the corporation to have centralized management of all the data for a product throughout its entire life cycle. They will also enable the corporation to have integrated management of all its resources. Through integration of information from supply decision-making to its internal departments and then to its users, the corporation’s speed of market response and product development can be significantly improved.

What needs to be emphasized is that manufacturing industry referred to above also includes dispersed-type manufacturing as well as continuous-type (process-type) manufacturing such as steel, chemical and building construction industries. In addition, advanced manufacturing industry of the future will be expanded to materials manufacturing, i.e. digital design and production of new materials as well as biological production, i.e. digital design and production of biological entities, etc.

Innovation in industry model

The industry model for the manufacturing industry will undergo enormous changes as a result of digital technology which is supported by the internet, internet of things, cloud computing and large data, etc.

Service industry of product nature will also see full-scale rapid development. Large and medium corporations are moving towards a model featuring “product + service”. They are transforming from being product manufacturers to systems integrators and service providers.

Progress in product technology, manufacturing technology and management technology brought about by “digitalization and intelligentization of manufacturing industry” will empower them with the ability for rapidly responding to market demands. In particular they will be able to achieve a synergistic and new production model that is characterized by the ability to adapt to a rich and diverse customer base in the global market, achieve remote customization, off-location design and the local product. All these will bring about fundamental changes in the product manufacturing model, product organization model and corporation’s commercial model in many different ways.

In fact, the third round of industrial revolution proposed by some western economists is more from the point of view of the industry model. They feel that the first industrial revolution took place during the 18th Century with the production of large machines, and the second industrial revolution took place during the 20th Century with the large-scale production of machinery, while during the third industrial revolution a new production model featuring multiple types of products, small-batch production and customization will be formed.

One point that cannot be stressed enough is this: Regardless of the angle from which one considers, “digitalization and intelligentization of manufacturing industry” is at the core of the new industrial revolution.

Promoting digitalization and intelligentization of manufacturing industry through engineering and commercialization

The key to innovation-driven development is the promotion of tight connection between sci-tech and the economy. Thus the most important aspect for digitalization and intelligentization of China’s manufacturing industry is to promote engineering and commercialization.

Innovation means creation of new things. This concept is now given a deep and highly important meaning. There are three terms in the English language: discovery, invention and innovation. They are connected but with fundamental differences. To put it simply, “discovery” refers to scientific discovery,

while “invention” refers to scientific and technological invention, and “innovation” refers to technological innovation. Both scientific discovery and technological inventions need to be engineered and commercialized. Innovation can be as such only if something is truly converted into productivity. Engineering and commercialization link scientific and technological innovation and industrial development together closely. This is an important aspect of innovation, a decisive factor for enabling structural adjustments in industry and fully enhancing industry competitiveness. It holds the key to innovation-driven development.

During the digitalization and intelligentalization of the manufacturing industry, we would need to firmly establish the idea of innovation spurring development. We would need to further liberate our ideas and undertake innovation in relation to organization, integration and synergy. We should ensure liberation and development of scientific and technological production capacity, in particular pushing for engineering and commercialization of scientific and technological results. To do so we would firstly need to leverage on China’s superiority in organization.

Overall plans should be made by the government and efforts should be made in measured steps to secure key breakthroughs even while promotion is carried out across-the-board. We should mobilize the populace and use our best men and women to carry out innovation in an organized manner. The second point is quickening the pace for in-depth integration of informationalization and industrialization.

Information technology with digitalization and intelligentization at its core should be applied to transform and upgrade traditional manufacturing industry to achieve integration innovation. Finally, an innovative system should be established, taking enterprises as the main body, staging market-oriented and attaching great importance to the integration of enterprises, institutions of higher learning and research institutes.

Our comrades in China’s manufacturing industry have a common aim, that is, by 2020, China’s mechanical products should be under numerical control in order for the industry to be upgraded to “numerical control generation”. NC technology should be applied throughout China’s manufacturing industry, with certain level of intelligentization achieved in a number of fields. By 2030, China’s mechanical products should be upgraded to “AI generation”.
