Peter the Great was the intellectual and transformed Russia. He brought a lot of "european" ideals to Russia. Both Ivan and Stalin transformed Russia. Stalin, love him or hate him, played one of the biggest roles in history by pushing Russia into the industrial age, defeating Germany and the Axis powers including Romania, Japan, ect. He also conquered half of Europe and divided Germany in two parts.

You have apparently never heard of the Russian Empire, not suprising your grasp of history is none existant. The Russian Empire stretches from Europe to Asia, every inch of the Russian empire and then the Soviet Union was gained from conquering far away land. You also do realize that no empire including the Roman Empire was even close to the size of the Soviet Union nor was any empire militarily even in the same league. The Soviet Union had the largest military to ever exist in both man power and military equipment.

The Germans had zero say in anything the Soviets did in Germany. Soviet Soldiers even in Russia could not simply leave their barracks unless they were on leave. Shame on you. The Sputnik utilized a radio transmitter that used different radio frequencies, it used oxide batteries for power. Moreover, it had a temperature regulation and with temperature regulation it used electric motors as well as other electronics and exotic element such as nitrogen. The rocket that launched the satellite is another story all together , it involved multiple booster engines as well as the core engines that used liquid oxogen mixed with different fuels to achieve enough thrust to leave earth's atmosphere. The booster engine separation and payload release had to be timed perfectly as to place the payload/satellite into correct orbit.
Simply put none of the technology that was used in the Sputnik or R-7 existed in the 15th century. Designers, engineers, and scientists worked hard on both R-7 and sputnik projects, the credit goes to them 100%.
