The first reactor was established in 1958 under the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser and began operation in 1961 with Russian technology.
The second research reactor, run by Dr. Magdi Zaki and a group of young researchers, was built on 12 September 1992 by an Argentine company. Construction and operation was completed in 1997, a research reactor that is the real nucleus for building reactors, Mainly the Dabaa power plant to generate electricity.
