There is a hell lot of difference b/w schemer and deceiver. The exact translation of that word in arabic is schemer not deceiver.

Instead it is a TEST, of who will see through Deception.
God cannot be the GREATEST DECEPTOR, if he does not deceive, can he?
Show an example on how God deceive, if You disagree.

To give Humans capabilities which should not be used, is not very smart.

I have seen claims that the original word is "makr" which is translated by Google to "cunning"

There is no contradiction Allah deceives the deceivers by making them believe in their own limited abilities.

Allah revealed the noble Quran to prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a compassion.

At the same time he gave secret hidden knowledge to the unbelievers (kafir) to deceive them into jahannam.

John of patmos received a prophetic vision through his nafs by Allah. He envisioned a plan for the unbelievers. Allah gave them a script so they can punish themselfs into jahannam on judgement day.

Allah says in the Quran :" we did no harm or bad to the unbelievers, they did bad to themselfs"
