In Bangladesh there may be communal harmony but there is something called kinship. A Hindu is more comfortable in mixing with a hindu, likewise a muslim is more comfortable in mixing with a muslim. Personally speaking, even I feel uncomfortable in mixing with muslims. Its not because of hate or bigotry but lack of kinship and sense of belonging. This kinship is the primary reason why hindus from BD are moving to West Bengal in bulk although they may have all the freedom in BD. They prefer living amongst the Hindu majority where they will find comfortability and kinship.

I somewhat agree, but it is less to do with kinship and more to do with common ideals. A secularist will always prefer another secularist, a religious Muslim would always prefer another religious Muslim, a capitalist would always prefer another capitalist, etc.

People aligning themselves based on ancestry alone doesn't work, common ideologies are what unify people.

Yes. Actually religion and ideologies are beyond nationality. I don't think nationality unites people, at least not in most of the cases. Thats why you will find Indian hindus have deep sympathy for hindus of Pakistan although Pakistanis as a nation was supposed to be an enemy of Indians.
