The Chinese Success Story

by Ashwath Komath in Economics

China overtook Japan as the world’s second largest economy . There are a variety of factors that make China a very strong and growing economy. The Chinese dragon is now at the zenith of its power.

China today gears up to be one of the superpowers in the world. China has beaten Japan to be the second largest economy in the world. China is looked upon as a dominating force in Asia. It has been threatening the standing of the USA in the world.

The Chinese are progressing towards growth and development by each passing day. They have made strides in every major field possible. Be it political, economical, cultural, social or military, the Chinese have made very good progress.

There are various factors that makes China a success story. They include:-
1. Unity
The Chinese people are united. China is not a pluralistic country. All of China have the same customs, traditions and speak the same language. Even the religion is pretty uniform in all of China. This creates a very deep sense of unity among the people. The people share common views, interests and goals. It is unlikely that their views would clash with each other.

2. Emphasis on state rather than individual
China is built on a very nationalistic foundation. The people of China believe that the interests of the state is a bigger priority than individual interests. This makes the people work in order to develop their country than emphasize on developing themselves. Their belief is that if they improve their country, then the state will be in a position to uplift them and in the process will be able to lead a much more comfortable and rewarding life.

3. The Chinese attitude
The average Chinese person is extremely hardworking, competitive and make excellent team players. They are very passionate and dedicated to their work. This contributes highly to their productivity and that is a highly contributing factor to their progressive path.

4. Limited political hassle
In China, there is a single party ruling the entire country. The Party is the Communist Party of China. It is a one-party rule. This means that there is no hassle of elections, policy change or any other political factor.

5. The Chinese openness to Change
The Chinese revolutionize themselves literally everyday. Everyday, there are reforms in China. And these reforms are tailor-made to suit the changing needs of the time. For example, even though China is a communist country, the Chinese reformed their economy to be liberal and the change in policy which was introduced almost 20 years ago has worked wonders for the Chinese economy and put China on the map as the 2nd largest economy in the world. The Chinese plan out their changes well and incorporate them completely.

When you combine all these factors, you get country and a society which is progressive and hungry for success. This hunger is the driving force and the success story of China.

one of the major traits for eastern Asian Confucian ethnics:Readiness to sacrifice individual interests for the greater good without complaining.

.
Well unfortunately this is not 1976 anymore. We've pretty much come around 180 degrees in the past 15 years. :bad:

That sort of sacrifice is preconditioned on a well-disciplined ruling class that doesn't disappoint the common people but rather inspires them.

I think the zenith which the author talked about doesnt includes the future.

and what happens when they turn evil and there is no one to check them

no its not, there is still some ways to go, at the very least no major fall is expected to happen in the foreseeable future

Yes, we still have a very very long way to go.

and what happens when they turn evil and there is no one to check them

That is the point of checks and balances. No single person has total power within China, there is always someone to balance them.

Mao's time will never come back, the old generations they fought to found this countries, but now,the new generations are all engineers and scholars, none of them have experience in war nor served in army.now the system in China is collective leadership,Hu will step down next year.China now has a strict law on how long a leadership can rule(2 terms).

1990 vs 2010 - Shanghai - To me, this is a success

.
Shanghai built its first subway in 1995,now it has the longest subway system in the wrold.that's just incredible.

. .
and not like big cities in other countries,Beijing and Shanghai's share against whole country's economy is very small,Shanghai ranks 9,and Beijing ranks 13 in China.that's very different from other countries.Tokyo,New York and London all account for a considerable economic shares in their respective countries.but that's not the case in China.

to my knowledge, Tokyo metro system is still leading the length in this field... but Shanghai's done a good job too.

.
total length of Beijing's subway will overtake Shanghai's

As of 2011, there are eleven metro lines (excluding the Shanghai Maglev Train), 277 stations[note 1] and over 434 km of tracks in operation,[4] the longest network in the world.[5]

Xi Jinping has a bit of a military background. He was also a former Red Guard, even though his famous father fell out of favor with Mao during the cultural revolution.

When China enjoys long periods of peace, engineers and scholars can be leaders. But when war is on the horizon, the military is the only thing that really holds the country together.
