Xi Jinping has a bit of a military background. He was also a former Red Guard, even though his famous father fell out of favor with Mao during the cultural revolution.

When China enjoys long periods of peace, engineers and scholars can be leaders. But when war is on the horizon, the military is the only thing that really holds the country together.

that might be true,I dont think anyone likes wars ,so let's just hope for long lasting peace.and hopefully China can win without firing a single shot,use our increasingly powerful economic might.
