All these small low lying islands will be flooded and destroyed in few decades by the rise of sea level due to the global warming. The real game is to claim the undersea natural resources not the islands themselves. In 1763 British-French treaty, France considered Quebec province in Canada as piece of ice and drain on its treasury and gave up the claim and instead choose the Dominican island in Caribbean for its profitable sugar trade. Russia also sold Alaska to US in 1867 and US doubled its territory with Louisiana Purchase from France. These were all good deals at that time but now we know extremely bad deals for the sellers. Only history will judge these island grabbing rush in the South China Sea.

I do not know where he gets the information. All I see around is Mainland visitors and the entire service industry that cater to them. And, almost every new graduates I talked want to move across the Straits and live there.
