It hasn't been said enough, that on the day Murtaza Bhutto was killed, he called a press conference and narrated

"These Men (Shoaib Suddle - District Inspector General, Wajid Durrani - Senior Superintendant of Karachi police) under the supervision of Abdullah Shah, the Chief Minister of Sindh, want to kill me. My life is in danger today. I'm giving this press conference to tell the government that my bags are ready. Bring a warrant for whatever it is you are accusing me and my party workers of and I'll come myself and sit in your car".

I wish I could say it was a different time then, a time when the government can walk up to your homes and then mutilate any any voice of freedom. But just look at who all are running Pakistan today?

The more things change, the more they remain the same.

Reference for this statement?
Songs of Blood and Sword by Fatima Bhutto his daughter. You have to remember that this was the 90s Pakistan, when there were only a handful of channels like PTV, PTN, STN and were all controlled by the state, no one dared to speak against the government.

Later that afternoon he went to Sujani town, Karachi and addressed the people of the small town.

"In history, whoever fights the corruption of the state, whoever raises his voice against forced unemployment and abuses of power, whoever fights the war to defend the rights of the people, they call them terrorists. But today in Pakistan, it is the state that is drinking the blood of its citizens. The government People's Party is not your party. It is weak and indecent. This is your party, we are the party of quaid-e-awaam, the leader of the people, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's party, so don't try to frighten us"

There were 4 tanks placed outside his house as well as armored vehicles. He was kill with impunity and the media assisted in hiding the truth from the rest of the nation.

I see you've been reading her book that came out a week or so back. I'm kind of busy right now and reading many other works already so I'll delay reading this till late summers but from what I've read, she has just portrayed her father as an angel, completely undermined Al Zulfiqar and as usual portrayed Benazir in a negative light. Her earlier writing has been along the same lines. I can understand that she considers Benazir to be the ultimate responsible for her father's life but she is way too biased and completely unobjectionable even when analyzing events that had nothing to do with her father.

Does she provide an original text or say she has a recording for these statements? Even if its a book, historians check each and every source. This is not even first hand info as she is not Murtaza. She has to provide some recording or statement to back up her claims. Otherwise it has the same credibility as something that has been conjured out of thin air.

Songs of Blood and Sword

A few excerpts. These are memoirs. I wouldn't say she mentions her father as an angel but she does portray him from the eyes of a concerned 13 year old daughter.

She also implies that much of Murtaza Bhuttos disreputation was as a result of misinformation in the media sponsored by the government, ever since he formed his own PPP-Shaheed Bhutto party. She gives examples of this.

Her father was killed outside her house. A house where for over a week there were 4 armored vehicles (she says they were tanks), and several police cars. They were intimidating the Murtaza Bhuttos. Even though the remaining family had heard the gunshots, the police did not let them out of the house saying that there has been a shoot out against robbers. This was normal in Karachi at the time. Probably washing away the evidence.

It wasn't until she called Benazir and Asif Zardari spoke instead, saying that Benazir can't talk since she is crying out of control and later explained "Don't you know? Your father has been shot". She now recalls the wailing sound of Benazir's cries seemed fake to her and made up.

You're making me anxious about the book. I have to be focused on my studies these weeks, besides I'm already reading The Making of Pakistan : A study in Nationalism by the great K K Aziz.

I'm ordering it over Amazon right away. Damn your exciting snippets.

I got mine yesterday, just finished the first chapter leading up to Murtaza's death. Its an interesting read, especially since you have at the back of your head that a huge segment of Pakistan views her as the rightful and more qualified person to lead the party. I've met and spoken to some of the other Bhutto kids. I wasn't impressed - didn't seem evil or anything, but I definitely don't think they have the competencies of becoming the country's leaders.

Ever since Benazir died people were very vocal about raising her stature. Do you know that the present government shut down her column? It's a pretty big thing considering who she was and how many people were noticing her back then. She has sort of re-emerged with this book ever since the curbs upon her from the government.

I would like to know that why should we ever consider her to be an option. Why cause she has the last name Bhutto attached to her, or lets say some Sharif cause he is of the lineage. Why have we not learned our lessons from our past, where the longer a dynaty ruled! the more they got into trouble. Why cant we move away from a system where one family become the front runner of a party and the same goes for all the parties in contention.
To me Pakistan of today is becoming more and more like the Andalus of yesterdays where one certain group controlled a state or a city, and Allah na kara we are very much headed into the same direction.

In her case its more than just a Bhutto name. She doesn't come from the ultra-rich Bhuttos, and the Bhutto - part of her is more or less an experience contributor not a dynastic contributor.

Also note, she is a political columnist. She is someone who speaks up against Zardari and hasn't even left her aunt out of the criticism. Moreover the disgruntled members of the PPP would need a uniting person to move them ahead. They can unite under her banner.

Also note, PPP-SB holds elections for party chairmanship. Ghinwa Bhutto (Murtaza Bhutto's wife) is not chairman by default.

We don't HAVE to vote for her, because she is a Bhutto. But we don't have to NOT vote for her because she is a Bhutto, either

Greetings ,

Brothers , hope all of you are doing really well.

Defense Forum in my view is the best national forum on-line , which is the only forum accounting all sorts of political and economical events of the past.

regarding the topic , i would like add my view, but before that let me state that as we are today lucky enough to grow in the technology sector with the modern world, blessed with Internet , Connecting people from round the globe, it would be nice to have different un- bias open views on assassinations , controversies and different events which had taken place in our past,

Media at that time was sure state controlled, as a child i just remember the helicopter image , which had Murtaza body and people on the streets. Yes just that ,

unlike today with modern private media channels ,your view is more critical and helps you in research, u can easily catch politicians changing statements (Eg. Rehman Malik on BB Assassination, changed statement with different anchors , similarly zardari on post mortem question at Shahid Massod Show, first he said autopsy was not allowed then said yes, on benazirs murder etc ) ,

i got hold of some videos on Youtube, of Murtaza , one of its last speech , before he gets assassinated , he does criticize that time establishment of Sindh , under the reign of her sister, i believe specially the chief minister of sindh,

He is giving out loud message to some people, who may wanting to victimize him,

here is his another interview with , some local journalist

And here is an interview with Nusrat Bhutto to some foreign channel i believe ,

My views,

i notice he could really communicate with people in urdu ,if you see his other videos of addressing to the people in his convention, unlike benazir,

What i didn't like was he being really aggressive and less diplomatic like his sister, he had more of an attitude of some what similar actors of French revolution , but no doubt he looked as he is son of Bhutto, and not like the new products of common dynasties ,like bilawal, fatimah ,hamaza shabhaz, etc

Secondly i think he was just at a point of launching party national wide , because i could just see sindhi feduals as friends along with him , unlike bhutto had people from every provinces , strong personalities,

Fatima in my view is a journalist and not a politician , her views at times are very nice as she can really conclude her opinion and justify them. But mostly are just a bit bious,

One nice article of her which i liked was about the officials who were involved in her fathers incident , " where they are in our establishment today",

In the end i would like to conclude that we should have healthy open discussions over people of the past, as all opinions change if you look at things from now, ..

Why cant we still reach to a conclusion to the murders of Fatimah Jinnah , Zia Ul Haq plane bomb ? , and all the people who had been assassinated in this country , lately Benazir

Why is it that people who are ruling today , are not the ones we ever voted for, even when its democracy ,

Rehman Malik , comes from a reserved seat, above that a punjabi of punjab region gets elected from sindh , from senate ....

Shaukat tareen , now hafeez shaikh , both were first on reserved seats then get elected through senate elections from sindh,

Baber awan, come in on a reserved seat , and then made a senator from sindh , he also from punjab constituency , now our law minsiter...

Similarly we didnt elected zardari , not the people , the corrupt representatives in the assemblies did ,

Kiyani gets extention , in a civil set up , what about the generals who would retire before them in the line of fire...

What is this setup , i dont understand .. seems like a package given by west, a model , to legitimize their war on terror. .

i am tu not even convinced that quide azam died naturally , yes thats my view on it .

Anyways , do watch videos of Murtaza and then re view .. your latest thoughts..

Kind Regards
