Palm Springs, California, has a similar thing during spring rains. Normally it's super-dry, lots of scrub.

After a spring rain, wildflowers go beserk:

For a few days, it's dazzling. After pollination, the seeds drop, and wait dormant for the next rain to come. The desert can be very beautiful at times.
 
Actually yes it is true. When rain falls grass and "what seems to be dead trees" grow and the dead looking trees grow leafs quickly however this does not remain for a long time. The grass dies quickly and then the tree goes back to "looking dead". I have seen this multiple times, after rain the desert looks like something out of Switzerland (not exactly but you know what I mean).

One can only imagine if there was constant rain and water supply to the desert ground it could easily be a forest but alas a part of the world has to be dry for another to be not....
 
Well. If this is true, then Subhan Allah. Miracles do happen. But to me, doesn't seem the same place though.
