What's new

Terrorist takes Australian cafe customers hostage:

No problem, keep your chin up mate the entire English world is with Australia in her time of need.

Yeah, it doesn't really affect me. I'm about 20 km away from the scene of the action, so I'm pretty safe. I just hope the whole thing ends peaceably and without bloodshed.

I'm still of the opinion it is a local lout trying to make a name for himself after watching too many jihadi videos. But time will tell.

It's been going on since 09.45 a.m. and it is nearly midnight here now, so it is dragging on and probably will drag on all night. One thing that should not happen is that Abbott accedes to his demand to speak directly to him. He should not give in to that demand.

I don't know where he's planning to go with this. What if those devices that he has supposedly planted are massive...that's what I'm more worried about.

Add more deflection in your posts, it's what your community really needs right now.

No one needs to add deflections. If that is how you see things, the I suggest you visit #illridewithyou campaign on twitter:

Nobody should have to apologize for actions of another. In case you do not agree, I can give you a billion examples from your background - starting with Crusades and certainly not ending with Colonialism.

They should snipe him through those glass windows.

They can't or they would have

Nobody should have to apologize, that's unjust. But the religious institutions that spawn these characters shouldn't keep quiet and useless either. The Imams who are oblivious to what's happening around them in the world are a big problem. People go to them for guidance and all they receive is a 8th century survival manual. It is their job to be active, because your religion has been hijacked while your community leaders continue to make bigger fools of themselves in the West through silence and inept leadership. That's the reality of it, and the perception towards the average Mosque, Imam and Muslim is bad...worse than Bush's lowest approval ratings bad. During times like these, anything can happen, all it takes is a spark.

Arab or Pakistani, it makes no difference to me. And you put a black guy from Tongo and put him in front of a white guy and he'll say he's got a Middle Eastern accent. You think a white guy can distinguish between a Pakistani and a Middle Eastern guy? It's like you trying to distinguish between a mainland Chinese and a guy from Hong Kong (it's only possible if you can differentiate between Cantonese and Mandarin).

Or Iranian for that matter...

This crap is haunting the West for a reason. The US in particular has been grooming and supporting many militant groups around the world. They have picked to their liking. ISIL didn't fall from the sky. This group has been receiving arms and other support in Syria among other countries by the US. They are trained and hardened in guerilla warfare. I'm afraid this day was going to come.

Yeah, he probably doesn't know where he's planning to go with this either. Doubtless he's playing it by ear. As for the bombs planted around town, they are probably a figment of the guy's very fertile imagination. But of course the authorities can't assume too much and can't take any chances, so they're out there searching for the bombs. As indeed they should.

But Australians are a pretty phlegmatic lot and pretty unemotional in a crisis so we'll just wait it out and see what happens. My bet is he'll get too hungry and tired and surrender, touch wood.

Like everyone else, we really don't need this garbage happening in our town.

We as Muslims are not responsible for a few grown up maniacs and what they are doing occasionally across the world in the name of their perverted version of "Islam".

I'm not a Muslim, but I agree with the bold part of your post. The vast majority (99%) of Muslims cannot be held accountable for the actions of a few rotten apples. Unfortunately, this happens after every attack by some wacko group. Of course, the Islam haters have an opportunity to spew their hatred. At most, Muslims can and should fiercely condemn any such craziness. Although, they cannot be held accountable.

I've said it before and will reiterate. Such militant outfits have become a danger to every country around the world. The bitter truth is that many countries including superpowers have been using such illicit groups for proxy wars and what not. Some groups are considered "good" because they serve our short and long term interests. ISIL is a good reminder to us all how chickens come home to roost.

Our prayers and thoughts with the Australian people .

inshaallah a swift end will be brought to this and preps will all be apprehended and brought to justice .

@kollang @New @rahi2357 @Serpentine guys must read

these nut cases, who think they are fighting for Islam, don't they realize their actions are only further sullying an already tarnished reputation ?

ISIS, al aqeda, boko haram, jihad... how much worse can it get ?

must be really embarrassing for muslims everywhere.
lol , no mate not at all ....

being a muslims has some rules . u should at LEAST follow some basic rules set by islam .

these people are NOT muslim , the same reason they are being engaged and killed by Muslim countries

let me give u an example : what if 20 separate bombers call themselves hindu .

does that make them hindu ? hell no !!

A great number of radicals/extremists in the UK are Mirpuris, so much that they are often blamed for the prevalence of extremism among the UK Muslims. What do you think would come of Pakistan if they were to be deported back?

That's the problem. No country in the world is currently suited to handle this extremist epidemic and certainly not Pakistan. But at least with this you are removing the problematic individuals to pre planned destinations where they can be monitored and taken out if they are planning attacks.

This has nothing to do with the background of individuals. It's the ideology which is the problem. Lately many new converts are drawn to this evil ideology. The ideology has funding/support from both within the Islamic and the Western world. The ideology can only be strangled if the support seizes to exist.
